RONALD ANDREW WHITE April 6, 1933 March 4, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald White at the age of 79. Ron was a devoted husband to Roxyanne for 57 years; supportive father to sons, Lorne (Megan), and Gordon (Carol); daughter Sandra (Ted); loving grandfather to Alissa, Sam, Logan, Clayton, Ainsley and Cameron and caring brother to sister, Helene. Ron was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Julia. Born in St. Boniface Hospital, Ron grew up in the North End attending King Edward, Faraday and Isaac Newton School, where he was proudly the recipient of the Governor-General's Award in his senior year. Active in many sports, Ron was proudly inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Winnipeg Light Infantry Junior Basketball team for 1952 and 1953 Championships. As a Chartered Accountant, Ron devoted 32 years to the health care field, starting in 1957 at the St. Boniface Hospital and joining the Health Sciences Centre in 1967. He retired in 1989 holding the position of Vice President of Finance at the Health Sciences Centre. He was proud to serve on numerous Boards including Manitoba Health Organizations, Canadian Mental Health Association, Winnipeg Regional Hospital Council, Whiteshell Cottagers' Association and Holy Family Home. His retirement in 1989 allowed Ron leisure time at the family cottage in Eleanor Lake along with many cruises, allowing him and Roxy the chance to see the world. In 1989, Ron and Roxy attended a mass conducted by His Holiness Pope John II in a private chapel at the Vatican and were further honoured with an invitation to receive communion from him. This rare opportunity was arranged by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate and was a highlight of Ron's life. As Parkinson's made his later years a challenge, he looked back on the grateful times he had fishing at the cottage, hunting, attending hockey and football games. He was a gentleman, large in stature, gentle in demeanor. He accepted his illness with grace, never complaining of the struggles he endured. Dad, we wish you the freedom to walk the flowering fields of heaven, something that has been out of your reach, your last few years on earth. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue. Services will terminate at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Parkinson's Society, 7-414 Westmount Drive or Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, 131 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9. A special thank you to all the Care Givers that made Ron's last few months comfortable, and to all our family and friends for their loving support. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

  • Ron was truly a leader in the Ukrainian Catholic community. He was a giant among men but a gentle soul! He leaves a loving family as his legacy but his efforts at the Holy Family Nursing home are his legacy to the Community at large! You have left the world a better place by your presence.
