Date of Passing: Mar 09, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLEE ANNE GISLASON July 27, 1943 - March 9, 2013 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leslee Anne Gislason, our much-loved sister and aunt. Leslee will be sadly missed by her brother Jonas (Elba), her nephews, Kent (Janice), Jim (Sharon), Jon and Noel and her nieces, Michelle (Craig) and Janine (Kris). Her great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Sarah, Lawson, Jamie, Matthew, Eric, Brittany, Brady and Hilary will also fondly remember her. Leslee considered her sister Iris' children and grandchildren as her own and she loved them dearly. She was predeceased by her parents Asta and Gisli Gislason, and her sister and brotherin-law, Iris and Alec Zagozewski. Leslee lived her entire life in Riverton. She was an extremely intelligent person and had a keen interest in politics and world affairs. She was an excellent cook, she enjoyed listening to music and she spent hours on her computer. She loved animals, especially her dogs that were such loyal companions to her. Leslee was a strong advocate for the rights of the disabled. She served on the board of the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities and on the Self Managed Home Care Advisory Board. In addition, she was a member of the Eastern Interlake Handi-Van Committee. In 1987, Leslee began to work as the Riverton Adult Day Care Co-ordinator and she recently retired after 25 years of dedicated service. She loved her job and the people she worked with. In October of 2012, Leslee had the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open the Icelandic River Walking Bridge. This was a very special occasion, as Leslee lived on the east side of town and was anxious to reconnect to "downtown" Riverton. She loved her community and appreciated the support she received from fellow residents and community organizations, especially the Riverton Elks. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Leslee's home care workers, Debbie Calder and Tyanna Mytz. Debbie was Leslee's attendant for several years and was like a daughter to her. We will all miss going to Leslee's for tea and conversation. Her house was our meeting place and we loved spending time with her. To respect her wishes, there will be no public memorial service, so please sit down, have a cup of tea, and take a few minutes to fondly remember our beautiful Leslee. Leslee was a wonderful person who had a great sense of humor, especially when cousin Kim and I carried her up side down - down a flight of stairs. Leslee always made us feel welcome when we came to visit. My best childhood memories were of visiting Riverton. Rest in peace Leslee. Much love! - Posted by: Johanne Helgason (cousin) on: Apr 17, 2013

In our early years Leslee and I played together at her house and at mine. Later, when it was not so easy for her to get out, I would cross the river to enjoy the the Gislason hospitality. I moved away and we lost touch, but I never forgot Leslee. She had a great sense of fun and her courage was remarkable. My sympathies to her family.
