WILLIAM (BILL) VERESTIUK August 20, 1945 - March 16, 2013 On March 16, 2013 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Bill Verestiuk, aged 67 years passed away with his family by his side after a three month struggle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born in the Steinbach hospital on August 20, 1945 and was raised on the family homestead in Sarto, Manitoba by his parents, Peter Verestiuk and Mary Baker. As a young man Bill moved to Winnipeg and worked in Hudson Bay, Sask. and Norway House as a cook. He also was a logger in his early years. His passion was repairing bicycles, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners and sewing machines. Bill is survived by his son Sheldon and his partner Bella; sisters and brothers, Mary Anne Martens, Patsy Pelletier and Richard Werestiuk of Calgary, AB, Johnny Verestiuk of Prince Albert, SK, Michael Verestiuk (Carol) of Kelowna, B.C., Olga Varketi (Nick), Rose Palahnuk (Frank) and Sally Poels (Peter) of Winnipeg, MB., Peter Verestiuk of Selkirk, MB., and Joan Still (Paul) of Petersfield, MB. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. A viewing will be held one hour prior to service. The family would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and Rev. Brad Elliott for all the support and visits to see Bill at the hospital. Also a great thank you to the IRHA Home Care Staff for kindness, as well as all the friends and neighbors for all their kind support.
