Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVILLY (WILLIAM) NIELSON October 2, 1924 - March 18, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we share our sorrow and the sudden passing of William (Papa) who passed on to a better place. To cherish his memory Bill leaves his daughter Linda (Hermann) Wagner, his son Eldon (Connie) Nielson, his grandchildren Lindsay (Michael), Krystle (Justin), Riley, Chelsea, and his great-grandson Braxton. He is also survived by his twin sister Nel. Predeceased by his wife Wilma (Willie), his parents Nels and Andrea Nielson, brothers Tom (Ed) and Vern, and sisters Ruth (Axel) and Rose (Allen). Bill was born in Denmark and came to Canada at the age of five, arriving in Winnipeg. Bill farmed in Saskatchewan in the dirty thirties and the family moved to High Bluff. Bill enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1941 with the First Canadian Paratroop Division. He trained at Vernon, BC and Fort Benning Georgia, USA. He served overseas in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After returning from the war in November 1945, he came to Langruth, joining his family. Bill married Wilma Arksey on May 8, 1946 and was married for 66 years when Wilma passed in August 2012. Bill was a grain buyer for Pool and was stationed at Dropmore, Swan Lake and Cypress River. Bill ended his career in grain buying at Cargill in Elm Creek and he and Willie lived in the Carman area for 35 years. Papa had a passion for family life and his greatest joy was spending time with his friends, children, grandchildren and his newest pride - his great-grandson. Papa loved curling, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. The best of times were spent in their retirement years in their motor home. Our family is forever grateful to the staff at the Carman District Hospital and Boyne Lodge for their constant care and compassion over the last couple of years. Thank you to the Anglican / Lutheran Church and everyone for your expressions of condolence. Cremation has taken place and William's ashes will be laid to rest at Glen Lawn Funeral Home in Winnipeg. It is the family's wish to hold a private family service at Glen Lawn Funeral Home in Winnipeg. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1030 Empress St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3P2; the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB R0G 0J0 or a charity of your choice. Papa - we will keep you in our hearts and know you are in a better place to watch over us. Each of us hold a memory of you that only you could give us. We love you.....xoxoxo till we see you again!
