MAURISE PATRICIA WOOD (nee FLYNN) December 17, 1924 - March 21, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maurise Wood on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 88. She was surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Jeannette), Linda Slinowsky (Darrell) and Diane Miller (Al). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Céleste, Nicole, Tera (fiancé Brent Luff) and Zachary. She is also survived by her brother Mark Flynn. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harry, in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents Maurice and Edith Flynn, her sisters and their husbands, Kathleen (Bill) and Lorna (Johnny), as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra, Alex (Jenny), Clarence (Irene), Mervyn, Vincent, Edith (Norman), Lila (Albert), Leighton, Dorothy (Nels) and Retta, and nieces and nephews. Maurise was born in Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm near McAuley, MB, the second of four. She married Harry Wood on October 23, 1941. Mum and Dad grew up together. Mum and Dad farmed near McAuley, MB where they raised son Ken. They moved to Winnipeg in 1951 and eventually settled in Transcona where, after 17 years, they added to their family with two daughters in two years, Linda and Diane. She worked at Ackland's Limited for 35 years moving up to Payroll Supervisor until her retirement. Mum and Dad traveled to such places as Las Vegas, all across Canada, Florida and Hawaii. They spent many summers at their cottage at Lester Beach with their little dog Heidi. Mum enjoyed watching sports on television with Dad. She was a good bowler. She liked to host family dinners every Sunday and also enjoyed knitting in later years. She enjoyed her last years living with her daughter Diane and her family. She loved spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her three granddaughters and her only grandson. We are glad you are finally out of pain Mum. Go now in peace to be with Dad. We miss you and love you and will see you again. A celebration of Mum's life will be on Thursday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, Winnipeg. • With sincere sympathy to Maurise's family. Maurise helped me with my Begg genealogy, and my husband and I enjoyed a brief visit with her in 2006. Her family was so important to her. May the precious memories you have of her comfort you at this sad time. Linda Tannis, Ottawa, Ontario - Posted by: Linda Tannis () on: Mar 23, 2013

  • My thoughts and prayers are with Linda, Darrell and Zachary at this sad time. Your mom was a special lady - very kind and loving. I remember her and your dad fondly, times at the lake and Thursday night bowling. She will forever live on in your heart and your memories.
