DONALD BRUCE JAMES (JESSIE) April 10, 1947 March 24, 2013 It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Donnie. He will be remembered by his wife Gayle of 43 exciting years, daughter Cheryl (Kirk), grandson Patrick "P.D.", sister Marilyn, brother Kelvin (Jodie), nephew Steven, niece Keleigh (Curtis). Jessie was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Fern, sister Ruthie, in-laws Robert and Hazel Pike, and brother in-law James Poor. Jessie's adventures started in Rainy; he was hired on with the rail line following in his father's footsteps. In those 20 plus years he advanced through the ranks to engineer with many stories to be told. Jessie made and lost many lifelong friends throughout his career. Don jumped tracks with family in tow, buying the St. Martin Motor Hotel, which they operated for 23 years with only three days off a year! Don was damn proud to be known for having the COLDEST beer on Hwy #6. Regulars became friends, and Don had many good laughs and even more stories to tell. Don lived life with a do as I say, not as I do, and a life is not fair, so suck it up attitude. His new love was P.D. and teaching him all those naughty little things that can only make a Grandpa proud. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Wayne Taylor for the many awaited phone calls, all emergency personnel, ER, GH4 staff and Dr. Penner at Health Sciences Centre for all they did to keep Don comfortable. Thank you to Kelvin, Jodie, Marilyn, Steven and Keleigh for all the help, support and the special little things that you have done. In keeping with Jessie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525

  • Don and I shared many memories from our early days at CN, particularily when we were both working out of The Pas and Gillam on the North Passenger Train. While we lost contact after Don left CN for his venture in the Hotel Business, I was suprised to see him at Cancer Care Manitoba last month. While I was saddened, I enjoyed the very short time with Don and Gayle to catch up on some fond family and friend memories, particularly when we spoke of my son in law, Sean and Don's best friend Dale. You are saddly missed. Gayle, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Thomas Switzer - Posted by: Thomas Switzer (Friend and colleague) on: Apr 01, 2013

  • When somebody dies, a cloud turns into an angel and flies up to tell God to put another flower on a pillow. A bird gives the message back to the world, and sings a silent prayer that makes the rain cry. People disappear, but they never really go away. The spirits up there put the sun to bed, wake up grass, and spins the earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud during the day time, when they're supposed to be sleeping. They paint the rainbows and also the sunsets and make waves splash and tug at the tide. They toss shooting stars and listen to wishes. And when they sing wind songs, they whisper to us, don't miss me too much. The view is nice and I'm doing just fine. My sympathy to the family. • My sympathy goes out to each of the family members and friends of Don. Our friendship started as kids growing up in Rainy River. We had paper routes together, spent most of the summers swimming and boating and drying off on the checkerboard and chasing girls at the river park. Don made Coach of the High School hockey team after a difference of opinion with the principal. In our late teens we joined the CNR on the same day as trainmen. I am already missing Don's weekly phone calls keeping each other posted. Friends from Rainy River and St Martins were always the main topics. Thinking of you all.......Dale - Posted by: Dale Lowes (life time friend from Rainy River) on: Mar 30, 2013

  • Starting out on this journey we call life, Jessie and I shared some life altering, and could have easily been, life ending events. Some of those included Sam, who made the journey to the other side ahead of us, carrying green, for those of us that would follow. Donnie and I reflected on those moments in late November past as we said our good bye's. There are some people that walk with us on our journey and as our paths separate it is difficult to remember their names, or even faces. Yet there are others that will always be omni present. Jessie and Sam for sure will always be part of my life. Flash often reminds me of the events of some of us characters of that time, and yes, Flash and I are part of that folklore too. In many ways, some folks really don't leave this place called the present, because when our flesh is gone, many folks continue to bring us to mind in good humorous reflection, with the colour of our past. Don will not be forgotten for a few generation yet. See you later Don. Perry - Posted by: perry marquis (life time friend) on: Mar 28, 2013
