SOPHIE PAWLYSHYN (nee RYBAK) Peacefully, with family at her side, Sophie passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dennis, Kenny (Velma), and Donna (Fred) Shandroski; grandchildren, Darci (Darren), Neal (Melissa), Amber (Matt), Kim, Kristeene, Lesley, Bradley, Adam (Amber), Heather and Allison; great-grandchildren, Eric, Mason, Colton, Lukas, Malakai and Chase; sister Rose Zadorozny and Elizabeth Kith; sisters-in-law Eva (Russ) Cooley and Marcia Pawlyshyn, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, her parents George and Pearl Rybak, her brothers, Mike, John and Steve; her sisters, Ann, Kay, and Mary. Mom was born on October 3, 1921 to George and Pearl Rybak at Stony Hill, MB. Mom and Dad were married in July, 1943 and lived on a farm south of Elma. Here she had many fond memories. In 1954, they purchased a general store in Elma and together they operated the business until 1975 when Dad passed. Mom continued to operate the store until 1978 when it was sold. Mom worked at the Whitemouth School for a brief period of time. She also worked at Pineland Forest Nursery which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was an active member in the Elma Church and in the Reynolds Senior Citizens Club. Mom always kept up with the religious holidays and traditions. She loved to cook and bake making sure there was enough for her children and grandchildren. Mom was always busy in her flower and vegetable gardens which she took much pride in. But her biggest love and joy was spending time with her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether it was cooking, baking or playing board games and cards with them. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home for their dedicated and compassionate care. A special thank you to Kristeene and Zenda for their tender, loving and compassionate care they gave mom while she lived at East Gate Lodge. Prayers will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elma, MB with Fr. Mark Gnutel and Protodeacon Stefan Tyrawski officiating. Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
