JOAN DEFREITAS (nee FORDE) Peacefully with her family by her side Joan DeFreitas passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on March 27, 2013 at the age of 62. She will be sadly missed by her husband Roger, daughters Rochelle Thornhill and Alysia DeFreitas, granddaughter Charleze Thornhill, mother Leah Forde, siblings Ernestine, Norma, Dawnley, Stanley, John, Desmond, James and Andrew as well as numerous nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Dawnley Forde and her brother Alfred Forde. Joan immigrated to Canada in 1981 from her birth country Guyana South America. She was the fourth child from a family of 12 children. She worked at Charleswood Care Centre and home care for the last 27 years of her life. Joan was a hard working bubbly woman. She enjoyed cooking and keeping her friends and family well fed. She was a humble and easy going person with a great sense of humour. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg MB. Funeral services will be held at 10:00. a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg, MB. The family would like to thank all the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care and Cancer Care Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or Heart and Stroke Foundation , 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Joan and I were co-workers with Home Care. She was very well liked and respected by everyone, both the clients and workers. She always had smile on her face and would brighten her clients' day with her warm and kind way. What I will always remember most about Joan is her singing. I would come into a client's home and there would be Joan and the client singing some long ago song as she would be assisting them.
