ROY ALEXANDER POLTRONETTI October 23, 1941 - April 4, 2013 Roy passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 4, 2013, surrounded by his loving family in his home as he wished. Roy leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Arlie, his three children Trent (Lori), Todd (Guia) and Gianna (Trevor); his treasured grandsons Beck and Lucas; his sister Eleanor; nieces Mary Louise Lisi and Teresa Krauter; and several cousins. Roy was predeceased by his parents Mary and Frank and his sister Loretta Lisi. Roy grew up in Winnipeg's old West End, attended Daniel MacIntyre and later the University of Manitoba. He entered the carpet business at an early age and went on to own and run Avanti interiors for over 25 years. He capped his career as a construction project manager, being instrumental in projects such as the Lady of Gaudalaupe Church in Sandy Bay, Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, the Holy Rosary Parish Residence and countless other helpful projects for friends and family. Roy was proud of his Italian heritage and worked diligently on behalf of that community. He served as president of the Cabato Center, was a proud member of the sons of Italy and a charter member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of Winnipeg. Seldom found in the front of the church, he worked tirelessly behind the scenes. He was a trustee of Holy Rosary Parish and a member of the finance committee for 25 years. Roy was a friend and mentor to all, always willing with helpful advice but his greatest pride remained his family, especially his grandsons. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris and her amazing staff at Grace Hospital CancerCare. Roy looked forward to his visits with Dr Harris and held her in high regard. Through hardship Roy remained strong for his family while charming the Grace's staff. All through his four year battle with cancer, Roy set a stellar example, always maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humour - he was always 'terrific' when anyone asked. Further thanks to the wonderful palliative care nurses (Kris, Rachael and Jen) and all the others who enabled Roy to stay at home with his family as long as possible. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the Mass. Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. The pallbearers will be Henry Dellapenta, John Gigliotti, Carmine Lisi, Trevor Zhukrovsky and Roy's sons Todd and Trent. All are welcome but in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the CancerCare Manitoba. https://www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca/netcommunity/sslpage.aspx?pid=873 For online condolences or to light a memorial candle please log onto www.mosaicfunerals.ca 1839 Inkster Blvd. 1006 Nairn Ave. 204-275-5555

  • Roy, you will always be a part of who we are today. Your guidance played a major part in our lives. Murray looked up to you as a smart man whose company he misses always. I saw you as an uncle to me who really cared. We will keep your memory alive because we often speak of you. Good times we had with you over a good meal, a bottle of wine and out at our country place where you thought the grainery out in the bush was a neighbour's house. Rest now in that place where you won't be sick any longer and put lots of garlic in the Angels pasta sauce. See you later. We will bring the wine. - Posted by: Murray & Cathy Painter (Arlie's cousin) on: Apr 08, 2013

  • Dear Roy, I always admired the Poltronetti entrepreneurial spirit and fondly remember childhood trips to Uncle Frank's garden and garage on Toronto Avenue. I always thought that old blue truck was the coolest vehicle, all loaded up with tools and equipment. I was so amazed when uncle Frank built a "house within a house". I also had the pleasure of spending some good times in the UK with Trent and I hope to see him again soon. lots of Love, Phil Leone please pass my details on to Trentino! - Posted by: Philip Leone (cousin) on: Apr 06, 2013
