IRENE GALASCHUK (nee HILWORTH) September 2, 1924 - April 3, 2013 It is with great sorrow and sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Irene was predeceased in 1977 by her loving husband of 31 years, Leonard William, who served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War followed by employment at the C.N. Railroad. She was also predeceased by her loving parents Katherine and Edward of Saskatchewan. Left to cherish her memories are her children: son Ken; daughter Darlene Mathieson, grandson Graeme (Jen), great-grandchildren Nya, Khairi, Avery Kaye, Blake; son Darryl (Sherri-Lynn), grandchildren Keegan and Kaylee-Anne; brother Mervyn Hilworth (Betty) of Regina, SK; sister Ruby Degelman of Kelowna, BC; as well as other nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene was a kind, sincere, giving person. She was born in Melville, SK, where she attended junior and high school, leaving Melville at the age of 17 to work in the TB Sanatorium called Fort San in Fort Qu'Appelle Valley, SK. It was her joy to see many healed from the TB disease allowing them to return home to various places in Canada, and especially the Armed Forces from England. Irene came to Transcona, MB where her mother and brother were living. It was there that Irene met Leonard who was in the R.C.A.F. and a romance developed, they got married in 1946 and the rest is history. Irene enjoyed being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #7 Auxiliary for 30 plus years as well as being an Associate member of the Legion itself where she belonged to a Carpet Bowling League acquiring many trophies over the years. Irene had previously belonged to their Dart Team which she also enjoyed. Another group Irene belonged to was the M.S.O.S. and Retired Citizens of Transcona. Irene made many new friends at these functions. Over the years Irene has taken several bus tours and also Casino trips. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital I.C.U. for their care and attentiveness to Irene during her stay. You can only have one mother Loving, kind and true No other friend in all this world Will be so true to you For all her love and kindness She asks nothing in return If all the world deserted us To our mother we could turn For those of you who have a mother Treasure her with care For you will never know her value Till you see she is not there To hear her voice To see her smile To sit and talk with her a while To be together in the same old way Would be our dearest wish today "Mum you will be sadly missed by all and not forgotten. It broke our hearts to lose you so soon; but you didn't leave alone. A part of us went with you. Now at peace and reunited with Dad, one day we will all be back together." We love you Mum. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transcona Branch #7 Legion and Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525
