Mom was born the third child of 16 siblings of Annie and Donald McAlpine in Dubuc, Saskatchewan. Growing up on the homestead in Dubuc, Mom was proud of her Scottish and Swedish heritage and loved to sing and dance to Scottish music with her brothers and sisters. In the late 1930s she moved to Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Frank Brown (predeceased her in 1971) and they were wed in Winnipeg in 1939. She lived in Winnipeg all her life until, at the age of 87, she moved to Calgary to live with her two daughters: Judy and Ginny. During the many years in Winnipeg, she was very active in the St. James Legion, served in the ladies auxiliary for the Army and Navy Legion for many years. She loved to play cards, darts, dancing, curling and enjoyed her many trips across the border to gamble. She was always up to a challenge of a card game especially whist. She belonged to the Donnelly United Church in Winnipeg and for many years sang in the choir. Isabelle is survived by eight of her 16 siblings: Mary McAuley, Margaret (John) West, Jean (Bill) Buchanan, Ron (Melba) McAlpine, Patricia McBain, Vivian Hogarth, Stewart (Marian) McAlpine, Gerry (Jeanie) McAlpine, plus many nieces and nephews. She is the mother to Judith Partridge-Stanford (Grant), Ron (Lorraine) Brown, Stanley (Karen) Brown, Douglas (Gloria) Brown (Winnipeg), Virginia (Allan) Kersch. She was predeceased by her sons: Ron (1996) and Stan (2003). She was grandmother to: Shaun (Sue) Partridge, Jamie McCowan, Erin (Rob) Reed, Scott Partridge (Regina), Todd and Michael Brown (Winnipeg), Jeff and Shara Brown (Halifax), Ryan Brown (Ottawa), Graham Kersch and Chelsea (Ryan) Kersch-Roch. Great-Grandmother to: Meaghan, Tristan, Rhys Partridge, Kendall and Carley McCowan, Caleb and Mackenzie Reed, Jake, Abbey, Cash Partridge, Griffin Brown and Hudson Roch. We would like to thank the staff at Cedar Villa for the care they gave our Mom the past two years and the staff at Unit 72 of the Rockyview Hospital especially Dr. Wong. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. To forward condolences, please visit our website: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1605-100 Street SE, Calgary, AB Tel: (403) 272-5555
