PETER LOSTOWSKY
Date of Passing: Apr 11, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER LOSTOWSKY Peacefully with his family at his side, on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Holy Family Home, Peter passed away at the age of 92. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife Helen, parents Timko and Maria, brothers John and Wasyl, sisters Anna, Fenya and Tekla. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Linda Gaba (Peter), son Jerry (Penny), grandsons Paul (Jennifer) and Michael (Kerri), and many extended family members in Canada, Ukraine and Germany. Peter was born May 16, 1920 in the town of Greater Weslik, Ukraine. At a young age his father passed leaving him to help his mother run the homestead. During the Second World War, Ukraine was invaded by the Russian Red Army forcing thousands to flee into Germany, including Peter. After the war Peter could not return home as the Red Army had taken over the homestead. Peter immigrated to Clair, Saskatchewan in 1947 with the help of his brother John, who had immigrated earlier in 1927. Dad worked on the farm with John for two years then moved to Winnipeg in 1949. It was here that Dad met his loving wife Helen while playing violin in the orchestra at the UNF club on Main Street. They soon married and had Linda and Jerry. Dad loved music and made two albums with Helen and Linda singing with Mike Zajac and Jerry playing on the accordion. Dad was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and was involved with many Ukrainian organizations including St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Institute Prosvita and Ukrainian National Aid Association. He also wrote for newspapers Postup and Homin Ukrainy. Dad had a passion for politics, sports and his garden. Dad was well read and kept up to date regarding world events, especially in Ukraine. He loved his Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets and sometimes would complain of a headache the day after they lost. Dad took pride in his garden, apple trees and flower beds. In the fall there was plenty of fruit and vegetables for family and friends. Dad was finally able to retire from C.P.R. in 1986 which enabled him to spend more time in his garden. The family would like to thank all the staff at Holy Family Home for their care, kindness and compassion. Divine Liturgy celebrating Peter's life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's memory to the charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT (Eternal Memory) KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

To my dear friends Jerry and Penny, my thoughts and prayers are with you as we send our deepest condolences on the passing of Jerry's loving father. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting your father. However, I do remember calling him a few times from Ottawa because I had forgotten Jerry's phone number. And I did talk to him briefly each time. - Posted by: Rick and Karen Vantour (Friends of Jerry) on: Apr 17, 2013
