JAMES COATES Born in Portage La Prairie, our gentle Jim passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of April 10, 2013 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his wife Marion and son Joel. Whether they were near or far, and especially in the days preceding his passing, the Best Dad Ever knew he was surrounded by the love of his children (Don, Janice, Carol) grandchildren (Janine, Samir, Paul, Mark, Scott), great-grandchildren (Basil, Alexandra, Samantha, Sulamain), siblings (Verna, Bill), the entire Coates clan, and the many friends made throughout his life. Dad served his country in the Air Force during the Second World War and for many years after. He was an avid gardener and could build amazing things with a few pieces of wood. There will be a private family memorial at some time in the future. In lieu of flowers, Dad would like you to make a donation to your favourite charity, show kindness to all and walk gently on this earth. Love you forever Dad.

I first knew my dear grandpa as a child and experienced the love, kindness and playfulness he brought into my young life. I then had to be away from him for many years but in my mind and heart his gentle warm memories never faded. The afternoon games, the basement swing and my first bike experience…. I was very fortunate when I got to know my grandpa again as a young adult. This time it was the wise advice, being there for me, playful and loving as always, and I can’t forget of course my first driving experience…… My dear grandpa you have left us for now, but your legacy is here to stay….. - Posted by: Janine (Grandaughter) on: Apr 14, 2013
