Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOFIA (SOPHIA) CAP 1921 - 2013 Peacefully, Sophia Cap passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the age of 91 at Holy Family Home. She is survived by her daughter, Romana (Roma), son-in-law Ronald Clarke, grandsons; Steven (Kirsten) of Las Vegas, NV, and William of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Joan Senkow of Miami, FL, and nieces; Kim (Chuck) of Largo, FL and Sandy of Miami, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Wasyl, her brother Dan of Miami, FL, and numerous cousins in Ukraine. Sophia was born on December 21, 1921 in Stryj, Ukraine. She and Wasyl were married August 16, 1942 in the midst of the Second World War. They immigrated to Canada with their daughter, arriving in Halifax, December 24, 1949, to begin a new life in Winnipeg. They embraced their new home and the opportunities in Canada, and were very proud to become Canadian citizens in 1956. Sophia worked in the garment industry for over 35 years. She worshipped at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Women's League. She was a member of the Ukrainian Reading Association "Prosvita", and a member of the Plast Ukrainian Youth Organization. Sophia enjoyed life as a homemaker, baking and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed a good novel, a good movie, bouquets of flowers, and many summers at the beach. Her husband was the love of her life and she cherished her family. Our sincere thanks to every member of the dedicated staff and Dr. Taras Babick of St. Paul's Unit 2nd Floor, of Holy Family Home, whose care and compassion shown during her brief stay allowed her to pass in comfort and peace. Many thanks go out to Dr. D. Tsang for his care and concern for Sophia's health over the last few years of her life. A special thanks to Protodeacon Michael and Olga Woroby, former neighbours and good friends who supported Sophia over the years and to Lida Mudryj and her family for their wonderful friendship. Further thanks to the residents and staff of Ivan Franko Manor which had been Sophia's home for over five years with help from Home Care. A private funeral service was held at the Cathedral of Saints Vladimir and Olga. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiated. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery.
