PHILIP ROMANCHYSHYN
Date of Passing: Apr 20, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHILIP ROMANCHYSHYN Peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2013, our father and grandfather Philip Romanchyshyn passed away at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 95. To cherish his memory, he is survived by his three children, Joe (Diane) Romanson, Eva (Evert) Matthew, and John Romanchyshyn; three grandchildren Danielle, Stephanie, and John; as well as his two closest relatives in Canada, cousins Leonard Romanson and Gwen Dasko and their respective families. Dad was predeceased by his wife Theresia in May, 2010. Dad was born in the Western Ukrainian village of Muzylowczi on April 4, 1918. Upon completing internship training as a tailor in his early 20s, he became absorbed into the evolving political conditions preceding the Second World War that resulted in his imprisonment in a Soviet labour camp for two years. This was followed by conscription into the Polish 2nd Corps (under British 8th Army command), where he participated in numerous campaigns in Italy, including the final Battle for Monte Cassino. Following the war, Dad resided briefly in London, England before immigrating to Canada (Kelliher, SK) in 1949. Within two years, he relocated to Winnipeg where he entered the garment industry. After marrying our mother in July, 1954, Dad maintained his involvement in the sewing field, while also later working as a custodian at the University of Manitoba until his retirement in 1986. Dad was a very kind, generous and easy-going person who made friends readily, and inspired loyalty from those who knew him. Always willing to help others, Dad enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, and proudly watching his beloved grandchildren mature. Our family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Robert Johnson for his wonderful care and empathy. We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all those staff members of 3 North, Concordia Hospital whose care and compassion during Dad's recent illness allowed him to pass in comfort and dignity. Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 25 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
