JOHN HOMIK It is with great sadness that we announce, after a brief illness, the sudden passing of our much loved brother at the age of 57. He will be forever remembered and always missed by his brothers Lawrence (Debbie) Homik, Paul (Sue) Homik, and sisters Teresa Homik and Joanne Homik (Allan Murray). He will be especially missed by his nephews and niece: Stephen and Matthew Potyondi, Alexandra and Cameron Murray, and Alex, Reid, and Jonah Homik. John was born and educated in Winnipeg, graduating from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Commerce. He had a long career as an accountant with Revenue Canada and Agriculture Canada. He enjoyed annual snowmobile, golf and fishing trips with his brothers and friends. With his sisters he traveled to Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. For more than 50 years he spent summers at West Hawk Lake creating happy memories with his family. He was a good friend and was always ready to help when needed. Above all else he was a doting uncle, and his niece and six nephews were the joy of his life. Prayers were sung 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue, Winnipeg. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26 (today), also at the Church. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society. Although I had not seen John for a few years, I have this one funny memory of him while visiting the Homik house in Calgary. His nephews, Alex, Reid & Jonah would be climbing all over him & tugging at his arms in different directions. He would just have a big smile on his face & be loving it. He was a gentle soul, and a good man with a positive attitude toward life. Thanks, John. Dan Blais - Posted by: Dan Blais (Friend of the family) on: Apr 30, 2013

We had the good fortune of knowing John as a client of our salon. For many years we enjoyed conversations with him on his many adventures with family and friends. He always spoke of his family, especially his nephews and niece and how he loved to spend time with them. Our condolences go out to all of you. - Posted by: Barb and Vito at Artemisia () on: Apr 26, 2013

John while going to University, worked at the International Inn Hotel, part time. During that time the Hotel and employees were a big part of his life. Many experiences laughs and Annual Golf Tournament. "Memories" for all that new him then. - Posted by: Rick Maskiw (Friend (Night Manager International Inn)) on: Apr 26, 2013

John was a regular at our annual Victoria Beach golf tournament. His smile, enthusiasm and winning ways contributed to the friendship we all shared at "The Swystonian". I know we'll miss him. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. - Posted by: Bruce Eyford (Golf Buddy) on: Apr 25, 2013

I didn't know John very well, but had the good fortune of participating in numerous Swystonian golf tournaments with him. I haven't met many who could say more than John with just a simple smile. He was a warm, fun, gentle person and his presence will be truly missed. My sincerest condolences to his family and many friends. - Posted by: Peter Jessiman (Friend) on: Apr 25, 2013

John and his family were neighbours and remain great friends. Most recently John stayed in touch through the annual Swystonian Golf Tournament held at Victoria Beach. He loved the event for the golf, laughs, and camaraderie. John was soft-spoken, kind-hearted, and generous (and a much better golfer than me). My best wishes to Terry, Lawrence, Joanne, and Paul. - Posted by: Jeff Swystun (Friend) on: Apr 25, 2013
