Mark, had been a good friend for more than 50 years. I first met Mark when I used to go swimming at the beach. Believe it or not but he didn't have too many friends at the time as he was kind of a 'Nerd' and got A's in school. We would go across the dam and go for Koolaid and snacks that his mom would make for us. Mark used to play baseball on the same team as me and his father was at every game. After his father died, we lost touch for awhile until we met again in grade 9. We used to spend weekends at each others place for then next couple of years. When Mark got his license, his mother's 67 Dart became our home for awhile. Summer weekends and some weeknights were spent at Clear Lake and later on in Brandon. Mark moved to Calgary as I went to College in Brandon for 2 yrs. I got a job in Edmonton and we used to meet up from time to time in either place. A lot of good times were had and many good memories linger. Mark moved back to Manitoba and we lost track. I was travelling a lot in the mid 80's and would stop by to see him if he was around. We became reacquainted in just after his motorcycle accident. He was still in crutches. I would stop in to see him whenever I was back visiting family. The last time I saw Mark was the Monday following Kitty's funeral. I was unaware of the terrible event and found out from some friends. I stopped by to see him and he was naturally very worn out and was sleeping when I got there. A friend was staying with him and said he was sorry but Mark was worn out and couldn't meet anyone. Mark heard me talking and got up cause he didn't want to miss seeing me. I had taken some pictures to him from 1976 when he won best custom paint at the Edmonton bike show. One of them, an 8X10, was of him and the Playboy Playmate of the year posing with him and his bike. I had them printed for him before I knew about the passing of Kitty so didn't know if it would be appropriate or not. My wife said no....but I gave them to him anyway. He loved the pic and said he had dreams about her (Kelly) for years after the show and proudly had his friend put it on a shelf for him. I was going to stop in again in May of 2013 when I was back for a wedding. I received a call from a cousin who told me that Mark was no longer with us. It's funny how true friendships never end, even though distances and time separate us. When we met, it was like there had been no time passed. Writing this has brought up many memories and I can shed a tear for a dear friend. May you ride off into the sunset without pain and at full throttle. - Posted by: Lyle Campbell (Friend) on: Sep 08, 2014
