LOUIS GOSSELIN August 3, 1941 - April 27, 2013 After a seven year battle against Multiple Myeloma cancer, Louis presented himself to his Creator on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Still, he considered himself lucky at having been blessed with tremendous physical strength before the illness. He stood "like a rock" in his beliefs of carrying on with honouring his ancestors and so in his determination of transmitting cultural roots. During his fight for more time on the planet, he enjoyed life as best he could, especially as "pépère" of five grandchildren. Louis is dearly missed by Paulette Ruest, his life partner, loving wife and companion of 51 years. Louis can rest in peace knowing that Daniel and Jacques, their chosen sons, will do their best to make him proud of their daily efforts at bringing true happiness to their own children: Daniel and Gabrielle's twin girls: Jolaine and Josianne, and Jacques' three teenagers: Miguel, Nicola and Janique. So now, Louis, first born to Ovila and Cécile (Maynard) gets a second welcome as he meets his parents and holds his baby brother, Raymond. He can also reunite with his brothers-in-law: Raymond Saucier, Jim Casson, Adélard Senécal, Henri Maynard, and Paulette's sister, Lorraine, and father-in-law Alphonse Ruest. His big brother's peaceful leadership was really appreciated by his 10 siblings: Eveline (Jean-Guy L'Ecuyer), Solange (Fernand Rémillard), Yvonne (Henri Coulombe), Lise (Michel Courcelles), Juliette, Angèle (Marc Hamonic), Gilbert (Connie), Huguette (Robert Trudel), Lucie (Gillmor Kneeshaw), and François (Heidi). His stepmother, Lucille Gosselin and mother-in-law Bernadette Ruest dearly miss Louis. Numerous nephews and nieces, friends and work colleagues will remember him as a joyful, most generous and all in all, a very caring, great guy. Paulette's family, the Ruests, will miss Louis' share in creating plenty of sing-song parties, especially at campfires. Throughout life, Louis was a truly respected, well-meaning community leader, educator, and sports minded person. He was instrumental in starting the "Warriors" hockey team in his hometown of Saint-Malo. His last responsibility as Official Languages' Representative gave him the opportunity to help promote services in both English and French at designated offices. He was also a dedicated deacon, ministering to Roseau First Nation and throughout Manitoba communities. His own GPS sense of direction in life will carry on guiding souls and it has been repeated that Heaven has an extra angel to welcome us with open arms when our journey is completed. We feel sure we've lost a pillar of strength, indeed, a commanding Warrior at heart Louis know that your re-mission has just begun. Louis' families wish to express their gratitude to CancerCare staffs in Winnipeg and Steinbach and also, for all the Saint-Pierre Hospital Acute Care staff. Monseigneur Albert Le Gatt will preside the Celebration of Louis' life with Father Dominic La Fleur on Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint-Malo Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

  • Louis has had a significant impact on our lives since a young age. We enjoyed listening to Louis say mass (his sermons especially), he taught us high school catechism, and he married us in the church. We've known Louis as humble and real with a genuine heart. He was a friend and an inspiration. We will miss his earthly presence, his singing, his chuckle. Paulette et famille, nos sincères condoléances! On prie que Dieu vous donne la force et soulage vos peines. - Posted by: Julie et Jacques Lambert () on: May 02, 2013

  • Will truly be missed, our prayers go out to the Gosselin and Courcelles family that we have been lucky to accepted into as family. Louis certainly was a fantastic person and has inspired many to be a better person. You will be missed but not forgotten. • I would like to join everyone in expressing our deepest sympathy to Paulette & family. As Christians (which Louis certainly was) we are taught that there is an afterlife where we will have to pay for our sins but we will also be rewarded for our good "deeds". Although I am sad to see him go, I'm also happy that he is no doubt reaping his rewards. The only difference between Louis & us, other than the fact that he is not physically here, is that he has started his journey to eternity before us. Hope to follow in your footsteps so we can meet later. Gaby & Diane Collette fans of Louis - Posted by: Gaby & Diane Collette (fans of Louis) on: May 02, 2013
