IRENE ISABEL BAIN (EBERLE) Peacefully, after a long, courageous fight with Parkinson's disease, Mom passed away on April 29, 2013, at the age of 81, with her three children by her side: her daughter Jackie Wilkes (Paul), her daughter Donna, and her son John (Cathy). She was predeceased by Frank, her husband of nearly 60 years. Mom is survived by her grandchildren Jason, Jodie, Kyle, Mark, and Sean; great-grandchildren Bailey, Camry and Karsyn; her sisters Rose and Loretta, and her brothers Ned, George, Peter and Dennis. Mom was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. She met Frank in 1952 and in 1954 they moved to Winnipeg where they settled on Glasgow Avenue to raise their family. She was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were in school, keeping an immaculate home and filling it with the smells of fresh baking and with lots of love. Later she started working at McDiarmid Lumber, where she was truly proud of her accomplishments. She also counted herself fortunate to have made life-long friends there whom she has always cherished. In retirement Mom and Dad loved heading south to Arizona to the Valley D'Oro Campground. There she made more great friends and renewed her love for crocheting and playing bingo. The family sincerely thanks the staff of Vista Park Lodge for the superb care they gave Mom during her last days. Their dedication and compassion during this difficult time was exemplary. We are going to miss her so very much. Yet having watched her deal bravely and tenaciously with Parkinson's for so long, we can't help but be grateful that she is free of it. Sadly, the cost to us, is that we are now without her. We picture her with Dad, smiling and laughing, with the two of them waltzing and matching one another's dance moves with ease. We love you Mom/Grandma/Nana and already miss you dearly. Mom expressed a wish that, in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation in her name could do so to Parkinson Society Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4, for the benefit of research to combat the disease. A memorial service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Soo many years have passed, but of all the clients/friends who have touched my heart, Irene and Frank stood out in my mind as a fun-loving sweet couple. Irene and I often shared a lot of laughs. One day as we were planning our respite, Irene thought we could go to Travelodge to play the slots!! So fun, I don't recall seeing Irene win anything, but it was the rebel in her that brightened my day. She also told me that in Arizona she had her own trike to ride around the neighborhood!! Missing her still!! 💗 - Posted by: Elda (Homecare Attendant) on: May 07, 2024

  • We are very saddened at the passing of our sister, Irene, but at the same time, we find joy that she is no longer suffering, and she is now at peace. We will miss Irene very much, but she will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Our condolences go out to Jackie, Donna & John, and to all their families. - Posted by: Ned & Betty Eberle (Sister & Sister-in-law) on: May 02, 2013

  • Your mother was a patient of mine for a number of years. She was one of a few patients that one could call a friend. She was a charming person that would light up the room with her infectious smile and pleasant mood. Even after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's she continued with activities, infectious smile and the Parkinson's was just an inconvenience. I am very pleased that she asked that I be an honorary pallbearer. Your mother will be missed by your family and I feel I am fortunate to have her as a patient/friend as I feel I am a better person for knowing her. I am sorry that I missed this day to say goodbye to such a precious person - Posted by: Dennis Chester (friend) on: May 02, 2013

  • I have such great memories of your parents and mine together, and it brings a smile to my face. Your Mom fought so long and so hard, and was so strong ... I know she will be missed, but I know your Dad and many others were waiting to meet up with her again. - Posted by: Kelly (Parker) and Harold Kluger (Friends) on: May 01, 2013
