GORDON DONALD BOAK
Date of Passing: May 12, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON DONALD BOAK After a courageous battle with cancer the family sadly announces the passing of Gordon Boak, at the age of 77 years, on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Gordon is survived by the love of his life for 63 years, Evelyn (nee Nickel). Gordon and Evelyn have always been proud of their four children, Susan (Pete), Garry (Margo), Grant (Brenda), Crystal (Greg) and their 11 grandchildren, Peter, Daniel, Chelsea, Alex, Rebecca, Austin, Kris, Darcy, Justin, Bryden, and Michelle. In March 2013 Gord and Evelyn celebrated the birth of their first great-grandchild, Ella (Daniel and Melissa). Gord was predeceased by his own parents, Marjorie (nee Horner) and Donald Boak, and his sister, Lorraine. Gordon was born June 24, 1935 and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. Gord pursued his love of airplanes starting his career at Standard Aero Engine and then Trans Canada Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. He changed careers in 1962 when he was offered a position with CBC as a technician. Gord enjoyed working through the camera lens on a variety of different productions and formed many close bonds with his co-workers. He retired in 1991 after 29 years of service. Gord loved his job and retired from CBC with good memories and great lasting friends. Gord filled his free time with many hobbies and activities, but none brought him more happiness than the time he spent travelling North America with Evelyn on their motorcycle. They travelled thousands of miles together over the years and spent much of their retirement in Arizona and Texas with close friends. The family wishes to thank everyone they met at CancerCare and at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness and compassion. We would also like to acknowledge his nurse, Olga, for the special help and support she provided for Gordon and our family. In keeping with Gord's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gord to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. I worked with Gord at TCA/AirCanada. We went skin diving many times, and built our gear together. We dived under ice and the clear waters of Westhawk Lake. Gord was a faithful friend and always willing and ready to help others. One of the good guys. - Posted by: Jack Stephens (Good friend and co-worker) on: May 20, 2013

This is very sad news and we offer our sincerest condolences. Gord's family can take great pride in knowing that he was, in all ways and always, thoroughly professional. No matter whether it was a variety special or a simple cooking show, the Director could count on Gord to deliver the most creative shots possible. And, of course, he was just fun to be around. He will be missed. - Posted by: Rick and Bev Inglis (Friends and colleagues) on: May 19, 2013

I obviously knew you better Evelyn (mom) and only met Gord on the few occasions you made it out to Retiree's breakfasts. From what I knew, Gord was a thoughtful, adventurous, humourous individual. Our thoughts are with you at this time of trouble. - Posted by: Bill Coe (Coworker of Evelyn) on: May 18, 2013

Gordon and I worked together for many years at CBC. Though we were always good friends it was in retirement that Marlene and I got to spend many happy hours at the picnic tables of the various parks in Arizona with the Boaks and other friends...great memories for all of us. Our heartfelt condolances to Evelyn and family. - Posted by: Allan and Marlene Pennie (Friends) on: May 18, 2013

Evelyn, Ellie and I send our deepest love and sympathy to you and your family at this sad time. I always enjoyed working with Gord over many years. He was always the "go to guy" who could fix anything and always a true professional. He will be sadly missed by his CBC crew and his many friends. I still remember the "little" ride he was going to give me on his new motorcycle. That ended up being 100 mph around the Perimeter hyway. Lots of funtimes to remember with Gord. - Posted by: Ron Place (cbc colleague and friend) on: May 18, 2013

I knew Gord when we were both kids after his parents built a home on Hastings Blvd. right next door. Of course we couldn't know then that we would both end up on opposite ends of a TV camera years later at CBC. Please know that you are joined in your sorrow by me and countless others. - Posted by: Murray Parker (friend and colleague) on: May 16, 2013
