Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABELL IRENE CARROLL Born at home on the farm near Edwin, Manitoba on June 26, 1919, Isabell passed from this life peacefully and contented, on May 16, 2013. She was the 10th child of 12, born to Catherine and William (Billie) Gould. As a young person Isabell loved the farm, the country school and country folk consisting of a close community of relatives and neighbours. When she married she moved to Portage la Prairie where she started her family and then on to Selkirk, where she became a single mother of five. Her children Edwin, Wendell (who sadly made the journey before her) George, Kenneth and Anita and their spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life, joy and love. Isabell was a wonderful example to her family and all of the friends of the family. She taught patience, understanding, effort and creativity. Life was to be an experience to be actively filled with joy and a measure of friendly mischief. She was affectionately known as "Ma" to all of her children, their friends, the neighbourhood kids and her children's spouses. She was the natural mother of five and the "adopted" mother of many more! She worked for years with Salvation Army and the Town of Selkirk. Even as a busy mother Isabell found time to volunteer with the St. John's Ambulance and in retirement she was an active participant at Gordon Howard Senior Centre in Selkirk and a key organizer in its Terry Fox Run. In the end and in her usual spirit she said "I'm alright" and "I want to go now!" and did so in peace. Thank you Ma! Thank you Gramma! Your body may be gone but your spirit and your example will always be with us. A celebration of the life of Isabell Carroll will be held at the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Avenue, on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome.
