THEODORE (TED) CHARLES LEWIS Surrounded by his family, with their love and acceptance, Theodore Charles Lewis passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 85 years. His strong faith helped him to willingly continue on his glorious journey. Left to celebrate his life is his loving wife of 61 years, Loretta, son Ted Lewis (Val) and daughter Valerie Langrill (David) as well as his grandchildren T.J. (Laura), Sherry (Ben), Sandy (Rick), Gord (Jesse), Kim (Justin), Shannon (Garrett), Jarrod (Vanessa), Kylie, Aimee (Jordan) and Jordan (Cassandra) including 10 great-grandchildren whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister Nellie Unik, brother Bernard (Veronica), many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Josephine and Michael Lewis, brothers Louie and Frank, sister Sophie Wasnie and his beloved son Greg. Ted was born and raised in Selkirk where his easygoing nature and sense of humour endeared him to all. He worked at Rokosh Sales for over 40 years as a parts manager and bookkeeper where he was known for his expertise and attention to detail. At the age of 63 he took a different career path working as a custodian for the Lord Selkirk School Division retiring when he was 75. It was at the Comp that he earned the respect of the students, his co-workers and the teachers for his dedication and hard work. In his younger days, Ted enjoyed participating in a number of sports including track and field and basketball. It was later when his passion turned to coaching young athletes. He coached minor football for years with great enthusiasm. Everything Ted did, he did with passion and most recently that devotion was to his garden where he would work for hours on end. He was a perfectionist and took pride in the home that he and Loretta built. His garden and yard were always well kept and he liked sending his kids and grandkids home with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes after each of their visits. His family and especially loving wife, Loretta were the most important thing to him. Over the past three years, Dad has fought hard to overcome many health challenges and mom was there acting as his most dedicated care giver. Losing his son Greg was definitely the hardest time in dad's life but his strong faith and trust in the Lord helped him to face this challenge with courage and we know that he is now at rest and watching over us. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Ted's life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Father Art Seaman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
