BETTY AMY LINKLATER (MARTIN) It has been our greatest gift to have loved and been loved by Betty, who with quiet dignity passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Red River Place, at the age of 91 years. She will be forever in the hearts of her daughter, Eva and Robert; grandsons Jamie and Michael, and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Kayleb, Alex and McKenna; sister-in-law Pat; brother David; nieces Lynn and Bruce, Judy, and Laurie and Dennis as well as many grandnieces and nephews. Betty will also be remembered by her neighbours, especially Alberta, adopted grandson Colin and best friend Marge as well as all the friends and people in the Grand Marais area. The people of Grand Marais thought of her as an Icon. Betty was raised in Traverse Bay and attended a one-room school house and later went to Gorden Bell High School. She served in the Air Force during the Second World War. She met the love of her life and in 1948 Les and Betty started the next chapter. She worked until they began a family. Betty spent many years serving her church and community. She was the president of the Women's Auxiliary for over 40 years. Her home was open to the Church Army Captains, various lay readers, many ministers and even a few bishops. She became the go-to person for the little Anglican Church. She also was the bookkeeper and canteen convener for the curing rink for over 25 years. Betty was a member of the Selkirk Legion. In her later years, she wasn't very mobile, but she started knitting Teddies for the orphaned children in Uganda and Kenya. A Celebration of Betty's life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Christ Anglican Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, at 2:00 p.m., The Rev. Dr. Brad Elliott officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation to the "Living 360 Medical Centre" c/o East Beaches Regional Complex, Inc., Box 330, Grand Marais, MB R0E 0T0 in Betty's name would be something she would appreciate. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
