Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN WALKER WATSON May 26, 1937 May 27, 2013 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of John Walker Watson. He approached his lengthy battle with cancer with great courage and resilience. John started his life in Pilot Mound, Manitoba on the family farm. He worked as a mortician and funeral director for Clark Leatherdale's for seven years, and obtained a bachelor degree in Science at the University of Manitoba in 1965. After he met his wife, Linda Beaudet, he left the funeral business to enjoy a career with the Plant Science Department at the University of Manitoba as Field Superintendent. John retired in 1998 after 29 years of service. John's many interests included reading voraciously, curling, playing bridge, and researching family genealogy. He had an eclectic taste in music and a passion for sweets that no one could rival. John enjoyed volunteering his time and energy to help others. He was coach to his children's baseball and ringette teams, and board member at Pine to Palm Resort Park in Weslaco Texas where Linda and John spent 10 wonderful winters. His many friends will remember John for his kindness and generosity, deep devotion to his family, sense of humour and wit. He was immensely proud of his three children (Nora, Darcie, Ernie), his three granddaughters (Sara, Kaylin, Olivia) and three grandsons (Mason, Coleton, Isaiah). He is survived by his sister Rae and predeceased by his brothers Tom and Walter. Most of all, he will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda Ruth, whom he cherished throughout 44 years of marriage. A celebration of John's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4, with stories of remembrance being shared at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name could be made to the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit (3 East) where he received the best care during the last days of his life. As all before us have said - John was truly a wonderful, kind, and gentle soul, with a fabulous sense of humour. Our lives have been graced to have been among his presence. Linda and family - we know that John/dad/grandpa just stuck around for an extra day to let you all enjoy his 75th birthday and chose to make a dignified exit after the cake was gone. John won many battles, but sadly lost the war - a hero nonetheless. Be strong, may he be at peace. Love and hugs. - Posted by: Linda and Rob Freeman (friends) on: May 29, 2013
