Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR URBANSKI On May 28, 2013, while birds sang and a gentle rain fell, our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Victor Urbanski peacefully passed away at the Gimli Hospital with his family at his side. Victor was 93 years of age and is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Anne; his daughter Shirley (Stanley) of Gimli and son Len (Ollie) of Kelowna; his grandchildren Ron (Angie), Sharon (Bob), Tracy (Ray), Tyler (Michelle) and Tim; his great-grandchildren Curtis, Joel, Hunter and Brooke; brothers Al (Norma) and Albert. Victor was predeceased by his parents John and Amelia; his parents-in-law Sam and Paligia Krawchuk, his sisters Stella, Edith, Bertha and Louise, his brothers Edward and Carl. Victor was born on October 5, 1919 and had the opportunity to experience many changes over the course of his life. Victor's life was one of hard work from a very young age from cutting cordwood with his brother Edward to help support the family, to cutting logs to build his first home for Mom and his young family. Victor served in the Army on the BC coast for two years as a sentry and then a cook during the Pearl Harbour invasion. Upon discharge, he returned home and worked with local fishermen. After his marriage to Anne on August 12, 1945, both worked at various fishing camps for several seasons. He took up farming in the Arnes area and supplemented his income by working with Elections Canada. Victor later worked as a carpenter. He was involved with Our Lady of Mercy Church and cemetery. Victor and Anne enjoyed taking bus trips after he retired. They traveled to parts of the US and visited the East Coast on a tour with their friends from Arborg. They also traveled to British Columbia to visit with friends from his army days. They moved to Gimli in 2005 and enjoyed their bus trips to McPhillips Street Station and Regent Casino. Victor enjoyed a good card game with friends and neighbours Esther and Mike Cherniak and Albert Markusson. Family was very important to him and family gatherings were precious. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday June 3, 2013 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Gimli at 10:30 a.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment will be at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Finns following the luncheon. His pallbearers will be his grandsons Ron, Ray, Bob, Tyler, Tim and great-grandson Curtis. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Sharon, Tracy and Angie and his great grandchildren Hunter, Brooke, and Joel. Victor's family would like to extend their sincere thank you to Dr. Gera and the wonderful staff at the Gimli Hospital for the care that Victor received and the compassion shown to the family. I am saddened to hear of the passing of Victor. He was a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. I remember spending time at my grandparents (Firmans) in the summer and with Victor and Anne being their next door neighbors he would often come for a visit and would show me all of these amazing card tricks. I just wish I could remember them. My sincere condolences Tammy Tillapaugh (Selewich) - Posted by: Tammy Tillapaugh (Selewich) (neighbors of my late grandparents Mike & Stella Firman) on: Jun 01, 2013
