BETTY LOCK (nee SCHMUCK) We are sad to announce the passing of our mom Betty Lock on June 6, 2013. Betty was predeceased by her parents Katie (nee Dziubinski) and Josef Schmuck, her brothers and sisters-in-law Matt (Frances), Rudy (Edith), Bill (Mandy), Bernie (Mary) and Ray (Betty), her sister Agnes, and her beloved twin sister Mary Gardiner. Betty leaves to mourn her son Brad, her son Doug (Tracey) and her daughter Val (Dean). Betty also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Corbin, Kelsey (Bekah), Courtney (Ryan), Brandon, Millie and Teddi, as well as cherished nieces and nephews across the country. She will also be sorely missed by her dearest friend June. Betty overcame many challenges in her 74 years right from the beginning: on July 30, 1938, Betty and Mary were born prematurely on the family farm an d weighing two lbs each, they were incubated in shoe boxes in the warming oven. The twins were inseparable, living together at home in Wroxton, SK and then Ituna, SK before moving together to Winnipeg for work and a new start in the big city. Betty worked in various areas, including being a nurse's aid, and then settled into the role of homemaker, raising her family and managing a busy household. Family visits to Matt's family in Yorkton were good times for all. Betty especially enjoyed the wiener roasts at Jaycee Beach. Family was very important to Betty, her children and her siblings and their children being a particularly important source of joy and support for her. Betty realized she needed to make a life change after facing a difficult time, and embraced her new situation with determination and a strength she may not have otherwise recognized in herself. This strength helped her cope with several health issues with a positive outlook. She set an example for being grateful for what you have. Those who knew her will miss her easy smile and quick laugh. Betty was always ready for fun, whether it was a board game or playing the VLTs, and her luck would often see her come out a winner. She loved attending Prime at Deer Lodge Centre and greatly appreciated the attention of the staff who treated her with a kindness that was sometimes missing in her life. Many thanks to Tara at Prime, Alma from Home Care, and the staff on E6 and ICMS at St. Boniface Hospital who helped mom these recent hard days. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation to the Prime Program at Deer Lodge Centre would be meaningful to Mom's memory. Mom, you never gave up on us and never quit on yourself. Your work is done, and you can rest easy and with peace. Thank you and we love you. Cremation has taken place, and service plans are pending. An announcement will be made when arrangements are finalized.
