LORNE BYRON STEINTHORSON July 30, 1935 June 17, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lorne after a brief illness at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB. Lorne will always be remembered by his loving wife Donna; sons David (Fran) and Russell; grandchildren Shawn, Ginger, Amanda, Paige, Shayn and Lacey and great-granddaughter Summer; brother Norman (Hazel); sisters-in-law Ruby, Ruth, Ellen and Edith along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son Donald, parents John and Inga, sisters Helen and Helga, brothers Joe, Thor, Wilmer, Guy, Ragner and Lloyd. Lorne left home at an early age and worked at many things from commercial fishing with his brothers on the northern lakes, mining and in the oil fields of Alberta. He was married to Donna Russell on October 7, 1961 and they enjoyed almost 52 years together. They enjoyed many ventures together from Thompson to a small corner store in Winnipeg, a hotel is Alameda, SK to return to the family farm cattle ranching in 1969. Lorne also started a pulp and lumber business when most were retiring. He was a hard working person who loved to be busy but his family always came first. In keeping with Lorne's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. A special thank you to Dr. Arara and the staff of the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Lorne and the caring support they provided to our family at this difficult time. Also to John of Arnason Funeral Home for his helpful advice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorne's memory to the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital Guild, c/o Irene Sigurdson, PO Box 474, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0 or to a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Just have to reply here because Lorne's brother "Guy" was my best friend when we lived on the farm. I also knew his brothers... Joe, Thor and Wilmar. Guy was born the same year as I was. The last time I saw Guy was in Wpg which would have been about 1968. If I remember correctly, I believe his brother Wilmar died that year somewhere in Ontario. Condolences to the family. • Dear Donna and family, I got really sad when I heard the news about Lorne's passing. I send you my best thoughts and hope you find some comfort in the thought that Lorne is now having laughs with and speaking Icelandic with his parents, Donnie and others that he was predeceased by. I often think of the nice time I had, living with you at the farm back in 1982 and I'm very grateful for all the love you gave me and for everything you tought me, and that was very much. I hope I'll get the time to vist you soon but in the meantime, take care and love each other. Love from Jason, the kid from Iceland. - Posted by: Jason Gudmundsson (Relative (son) from Iceland) on: Jun 27, 2013

  • How incredibly sad....the right words are never easy to find at times like this. Uncle Lorne and my Dad (Lloyd) were as much best friends as they were brothers. Memories flash through my mind of them sitting at the kitchen table at the farm laughing and telling stories over a few very stiff shots of rum. And anyone who knew Uncle Lorne would agree that he had an incredible sense of humour and would tease Auntie Donna whenever he thought he could catch her off guard and get away with it. Fond memories of the little corner store in Wpg....the Alameda hotel...the farm....his piercing blue and of couse, his laugh. Missing you Uncle Lorne. - Posted by: Lori Steinthorson (Niece) on: Jun 23, 2013

  • Donna and Family. Sorry to hear of Lorne's passing. My heartfelt sympathy to you all, and may time help to heal the wound as you move on and continue to cope with the days that lie ahead. God Bless! - Posted by: Muriel Alexander (Aquaintance) on: Jun 22, 2013
