MARY IRENE PARKHURST (nee RATCLIFFE) February 28, 1918 June 17, 2013 It is with sadness that we wish to announce the peaceful passing of Mary Parkhurst at the River Park Gardens Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, on June 17, 2013 at the age of 95 years. Predeceased by her husband Kelvin, she is survived by her four children Gerry (Jerry) Ilchyna, Brian (Evie) Parkhurst, Allison (Richard) Stefanyshyn of Winnipeg and Barbara Fraser of Sydney BC as well as 11 grand-children that she dearly loved and 14 great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud. She was known to all of us as Nanny and loved nothing more than family gatherings. Mom saw the good in everyone whether it was a line at a grocery store or sitting on an airplane and she made friends wherever she went. A talented and beloved educator, she taught kindergarten at Lord Roberts School in Winnipeg, Centennial School in Brandon, and at Brandon University. She and Dad retired to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island in 1976 where they spent over 20 years golfing and playing cards with a group of wonderful friends. Mom moved back to Winnipeg to be with family during her final years. We would like to thank the staff of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for their care and compassion and for allowing our mother to die with such dignity. She lived a long and full life and we will miss her. Flowers are gratefully declined, in view of her compassion for others we ask that you preform a random act of kindness for someone less fortunate - she would love that. A private family service will take place at a later date. God could not be everywhere and so He made mothers. Rest in Peace Mom. Mary was a beautiful person, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to know her. I know she will be missed, but now she is at rest. You were lucky to have such a great mom, Allison, Gerry, Brian and Barb! - Posted by: Linda Benson (Friend) on: Jun 23, 2013
