CATHERINE (KIT) MACLAREN Catherine Mary, born in London, England on August 20, 1917 passed away June 21, 2013 at Red River Place Personal Care Home with family at her side. Catherine, better known as Kit, was the eldest child of William and Ada Farmer. When she was two years old the family immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm in Lauder, MB. She met the love of her life Hector Allan Maclaren while working in Boissevain. They were married in Brandon on August 15, 1940. They had three children and lived in the communities of Libau, Selkirk and Letellier. When Allan suddenly passed away in 1960, Kit moved her family back to Selkirk. With love and patience she raised her children who undoubtedly caused many of her grey hairs. As well as being a busy mother, she also looked after her father, father-in-law and took in boarders. For 20 years Kit worked at the Town of Selkirk office. Back then, she addressed all the water bills by hand. She was highly respected by her co-workers. Retiring in 1981, she then caught the travelling bug. She took trips with her friend Peggy to Europe, throughout Canada and the USA. Knox Presbyterian Church was a vital part of her life. She served as an Elder, was a member of the Guild, Board of Managers and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed the fellowship of being part of a church community. Kit was a very wise and independent woman. She loved to attend family gatherings and socialize with good friends, especially the Campbell's and McRae's of Clandeboye Avenue. Kit enjoyed curling, watching all kinds of sports, knitting and crocheting. Her family were the recipients of many great handmade gifts that they will forever treasure. Through her retirement she lived at the Knights Centre and had many friends there. In 2009 she moved to Red River Place. She especially enjoyed the activities offered and receiving visitors during that time. A special thank you to all the wonderful and caring staff. Kit was predeceased by her parents, William and Ada, husband Allan, brother Bill Farmer, sister-in-law Francis and brother-in-law Bill Yeomans. She is lovingly remembered by her children, David (Beth), Ron (Edmay) and Elizabeth (Ron) Predy; her eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her dear sister Rosa Yeomans and brother George Farmer (Margaret), and many nieces and nephews, all of them her favourite. A celebration of Kit's life will take place on Thursday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Selkirk, MB. Donations can be made in her memory to Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Beloved Mother, Grandma and Nana Softly the leaves of memory fall Gently we gather and treasure them all Unseen, unheard, you are always near So missed, so loved, so very dear.
