LESLIE NORMAN EDEL
Date of Passing: Jun 23, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE NORMAN EDEL It is with great sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Leslie Norman Edel. Leslie passed away peacefully at Morris General Hospital, with family at his side and went to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 23, 2013. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife Ellie, who was his faithful care giver for many years. Daughters Karen Unger (Loren), Beverly Dunlop (Dwight) and Darcie Edel; grandchildren Meghan Cox (Nate), Mitchell Unger (Lindsey), Kristin Horvath (Attila) and Kielly Dunlop. Brothers Melvin Edel (Elaine), sister Eleanor Keck (Erhard), Donald Edel (Shelley), Edward Edel (Evelyn), sister-in-law Beatrice Friesen and numerous nephews and nieces. Leslie was born in the Broadview farming area southwest of Morris, MB on September 9, 1937 to Arthur and Elsie Edel. He grew up and started working on the family farm at an early age together with his Dad and brothers. He married the love of his life Ellie Neuman, on September 20, 1957. They built their own home on the same farmyards as Leslie's parents, where daughters Karen and Beverly were born. In 1962 they purchased their own farm, just one mile away and built their new home, where Darcie was born. Leslie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour at age 12 and was baptised. He recommitted his life to the Lord after the death of his older brother Nelson, who was killed in a farming accident in 1962. He was active in Emmanuel Baptist Church throughout his life as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, church moderator, deacon and choir member. The family lived on their farm until losing their home to flood waters in the 1979 Red River flood. They purchased a lot in Morris, and moved their house inside the dike. He loved working in the yard until health issues, due to his diabetes, forced them to downsize and move to their current residence with no basement or steps. Les lived in Morris all his life. He served his community on the Manitoba Pool Elevator Board, as Morris MacDonald School Division trustee, Credit Union board member, Morris Manor Board member and for many years on the Board of Directors at Providence College and Seminary. Leslie fulfilled his dream to help farmers harvest their grain earlier when he and brother Donald started Valley Agro Services in 1976. He was able to meet and bond with farmers throughout western Canada and northern US by selling grain handling and storage equipment. Due to health reasons he eventually sold the business to his nephew Douglas Edel in 2000. Dad was our spiritual encourager and mentor. Daily family devotions before school each morning were very important to him. We as family loved and admired Dad's unconditional love and acceptance. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We can't express how much we'll miss him, but are also thankful that he is relieved of his suffering and celebrating, with Jesus whom he loved and served faithfully. We will always be thankful for the legacy he left us showing strength and courage in the midst of adversity. The funeral service for Leslie Edel will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Morris, MB. Viewing will be held at Morris Funeral Home, on Wednesday, June 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place prior to the funeral in the Morris Cemetery. Donations in memory of Leslie Edel may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Missions fund or The Canadian Diabetes Association. As a close friend, fellow christian brother, my family felt the same loss and joy at the same time of the passing of our beloved's brother Don, sad of his separation from his beloved father, joy because we trust that his beloved father now joined in fellowship of the saints with Our Lord in heaven, Amen Peace and Love, Mona and Pingston /Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Posted by: Mona and Pingston Riveong (Closed friend of his son Donald Edel of Winepeg) on: Jul 05, 2013

Love to all the family, our heartfelt sympathies! Praying for the days ahead, may comfort come from those wonderful memories and the legacies he has left behind. My personal favorite are his girls whom are dear to my heart! Ellie, you are the reason Les could accomplish so much in his life, because of the excellent partner you were to him! Reading this obituary was very touching and is a powerful life testimony for our Lord and Saviour. When our God calls His servant it is difficult for the loved ones to distinguish tears from joy of knowing that our loved one is with His Saviour. On behalf of our church in Montreal the Full Heritage Evangelical Church, our senior Pastor Rev. Dr Aïssi, Ph.D , I would like to transmit our sincere condolences. May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter give you peace! - Posted by: Bertrand des Autels (Friend of Donald Edel) on: Jun 27, 2013

He was my brother, friend and partner who I appreciate as being a gift from God. There were many hardships in the journey of life during which Les was a confidant that I could trust. The last time we visited before his passing he said, "Don why are people so eager to die for Christ but no one wants to live for Him" -- I loved that one and will never forget it! My family always enjoyed his company and knew him to be our friend. I saw the results of his faith in God and it inspired me to do likewise. He knew his Lord and my next visit with him he will be free of pain and with our other brother Nelson. He will have his hands behind his back and when he notices me ... the smile will be there. I love you Les and will see you again. Thanks for your life brother. - Posted by: Donald G Edel (brother) on: Jun 27, 2013

Dear Ellie: It was Tuesday morning when the telephone rang and Alfred advised us of the passing of Les. We were shocked and could hardly believe it. We remember the times when we visited your family in Morris and really appreciated the hospitality and the time we had together. Les had always time for us and was an example how to live for the Lord. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. A Life Well-Lived A life well-lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It's filled with moments sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears with friendships formed and good times shared and laughter through the years. A life well-lived is a legacy of joy and pride and pleasure, a loving, lasting memory our grateful hearts will treasure. - Posted by: Harry and Helga Riemer () on: Jun 26, 2013

Sending my condolences to the family and friends of Les Edel. I remember your family fondly. I spent many a summer in Morris and at EBC, where Ellie (and Les if I remember correctly) taught Sunday school. I remember attending youth functions on your farm and having a great time. The last time I saw you Ellie was at The Bay, downtown, a year or so ago. You had mentioned Les was not so good. I was sad to read in the paper today, Les had passed away. Ellie, Karen, Bev, Darcie and family, my heart goes out to you at this time. Sending you all a big hug. Les, I know we will meet again. - Posted by: Blaine Scott (Grandson of Louise Bartlette) on: Jun 25, 2013

It was during ouR time living at Morris and attending Emmanuel Baptist Church that we met Les & Ellie & family. I had many spiritual conversations with Les and times of sharing. We will certainly miss Les, even though we haven't been back to Morris for a number of years. However we have a deep and abiding hope that all believers will see each other again and that the Lord has promised in His word, that absent from the body is present with the Lord and we can take that to the bank. We offer our condolences to Ellie and the family on the passing of Les, however know that he is in a far, far better place, free from suffering. Our prayer is that the Lord's grace will be sufficient for you during this time of grieving. As Les and I were so close in age, (I was 1 month older) I have some great memories of the times we spent together..went to Amy & Richard's for a couple of nights, why? can't remember, let me ride his bike, even when I fell down & bent it! Remember when he came to our house so my Dad could cut his hair (which was very, very thick) Nelson & Les would pick me up & we would play baseball with other kids. He was the brother I never had. We know he is with our Lord and free from all the pain. We will miss him. Jim will always remember the prayer time with Les, either in person or by phone.
