AUDREY IDA JOSEPHINE ETTINGER (nee SCRAMSTAD) It is with great sadness that we announce Audrey's unexpected yet peaceful passing on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the age of 78, at the Selkirk General Hospital with her family and close friend Eileen by her side. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband Tucker, of 46 years (together 54), her daughter Judy-Lyn, and the grand-pets, Spunky Monkey, Betty-Boop, Chloe and Minou. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Alyce Scramstad, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Ada Scramstad; her only brother, Raymond Scramstad; and her grand-pets, April, Bobo, Pongo Boy, History Cat, Lynxie and Poshie. Audrey was born on October 22, 1934 in Selkirk, Manitoba and lived there her whole life. Audrey started her working career at Motor Sales in Winnipeg and then on to Brown's Bread in Selkirk and finally to MTS where she had a long and successful career retiring from the company in the position of Manager of Operator Services after 37 years. She made many lifelong friends along the way. She was a very generous, caring person and never missed an opportunity to spend time with friends and family and was always delighting them with cards, gifts and surprises. She was very actively involved with her community. She volunteered with the Legion Ladies, Betel Home and MTS Telephone Pioneers to name a few and donated generously to many causes and charities. Audrey and Tucker loved to travel and visit relatives and friends from coast to coast and as far South as they could drive, flying was not an option for her but it didn't stop them from covering a lot of ground. Even in the last few years when her health was failing, she was always on the go right till the very end. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Selkirk Dialysis Unit and all her doctors. Respecting Audrey's wishes, cremation has taken place. In honour of Audrey's kind, generous and life loving spirit, a celebration of her life will take place on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Christ Church, 227 Mclean Ave., Selkirk, Manitoba, with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey's memory to Selkirk and District Community Foundation; the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, or a charity of one's choice. Audrey touched many lives and she will be sadly missed, lovingly remembered and never forgotten. "Until we meet again!" Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Dear Judy, As soon as I saw the picture I knew it was your Mom. And as I read the obit, I REALLY knew it was your Mom. You are not only the spitting image of her physically, you share her warmth and zest for life. I'm so sorry for the pain you're going through, but get up each day, put one foot in front of the other and continue to make your mother proud. Be the wonderful person she made you to be. • Well, when you are the family member that moves away, often you are the last to know about any family losses or new arrivals. Hence my late tribute to Audrey. Tucker and Judy, I am very sorry I missed the opportunity to come home to show my respect to Audrey and you both. With fondess, I recall her words, her actions, and hold dear to my heart Audrey's love for all of us. I always felt that Audrey was the 'matriarch' of the Scramstad family. She devoted her time and energy in ensuring that everyone was kept in the loop about family matters. The passing of Audrey is a huge loss for us Scramstads. But more importantly, the passing of Audrey is a loss for anyone who had the good fortune to have her in your life. Audrey was the hub for our family and for many other community groups/friendship circles. I loved Audrey but rarely had the chance to tell her just how much or how much I respected her. Tucker, you married a fire cracker and she kept lighting up for 54 years. Wow, you were blessed. Judy, I often saw when I was younger, just how close you and Audrey were as mother and daughter. Of course there must have been times when you wished for more distance, but looking back, isn't nice to say you had a close relationship with your mom. Tucker and Judy, please hold close to your heart that Audrey was loved and had loved in her young 78 years of life. Love Elaine, Geoff and Reed - Posted by: Elaine Tess (nee Scramstad) (Cousin) on: Jul 08, 2013
