Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS LILLIAN SWENTY (nee JOYCE) March 28, 1941 - June 30, 2013 Gladys was born in Winnipeg, MB to a strong and independent woman, Edna Joyce. The lessons she learned in her formative years stayed with her throughout her life. She was an amazing pillar of strength and courage who learned a lot through reading and questioning. She was never afraid to "tell it like it is". You never had to wonder what she was thinking. She always had an opinion and never backed down from a lively discussion. Gladys will be remembered by those who knew her as a kind and dear friend, a wonderful mother. She was predeceased by her mother, Edna Joyce and her sister Edna Emes. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter Nancy. Gladys never recovered from that loss. She will be greatly missed by her friends, especially Cindy, Ann, Michelle, Tracy and Carol, and many of "the girls" to whom she was a second mom. She taught us all to stand up for ourselves. Gladys lived in Winnipeg, Matlock, Fraserwood, Chatfield and finally in Fisher Branch. She was known for her amazing cooking and no one ever went hungry in her house. Her love of cooking led her to cook at a number of restaurants, camps and eventually operating her own restaurant. She had a soft spot for animals and was always surrounded by them if she could be. Throughout her life she had horses, numerous dogs and cats. Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Teulon Hospital for keeping her as comfortable as possible. As Gladys wished there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Humane Society in her memory. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. I have many happy memories of the fun I spent playing with Gladys in our young days. She was always a dare devil and never shied away from anything. She taught me how to French Kiss and was quick to laugh at herself. Though we live miles apart I'm saddened at her loss - Posted by: Dale Trenaman (Cousin) on: Jul 08, 2013

Rest in Peace Dear Gladys. My family and I have many good memories together over the years from 1984 when you moved to Chatfield with Nancy. We will be missing you both so much, always in our hearts. Sharron, Melanie, Erin and Patrick - Posted by: Sharron McKinnon (friend) on: Jul 06, 2013
