So sad to hear of Bill's passing. My thoughts go out to his family, especially Valerie and Bob, who I knew in days gone by. Someone earlier mentioned Bill had a quirky sense of humour. I would agree and perhaps that is the main reason we found a connection. Whenever we shared a beer, mostly at the Central, we fell into a patter that I would term uniquely, "Transconian". Quirky. Dry. Clever. Understated. Sometimes sarcastic. Often sacastic, come to think about it. I enjoyed those exchanges a lot and wish we had more. Bill always seemed centered and calm. I liked that about him. His words were honest, simple and always delivered with an impish smile that signaled an underlying, more subtle and humorous meaning. Recollections of Bill draw my mind back to days we didn't realize were so happy until they passed. I can't think of a better way to remember him. Thanks for the rounds friend. - Posted by: Gord Smith (Friend) on: Jul 25, 2013

Damn it. I wasn't ready for you to go. Bit by bit my ties to Transcona keep slipping away. I first got to know Bill well playing riffraff football on Sundays. Always good for a laugh and jokes. Then I was in his carpool in 68/69. Lately in the last 13 years as I spent time in Transcona on my way to and from Cuba I discovered a great group of friendly old dudes gathered around Bill and Bobby at the Princess and I so enjoyed their good times. If there's a good watering hole up there past the Pearly gates, you'll be there front and center and if they have a bad day and let me in, I'll be looking for you. - Posted by: Doug McDonald aka Poshmcdoo aka scrapiron (buddy) on: Jul 16, 2013

Bob, Val and Family; I am so shocked by the passing of Bill. As you know, you were the first of the family I met, but when I came to know Bill, it was like we'd known each other forever. I will miss 'Did you mow the lawn today'? and a smoke at the door at the Spike. Rest easy, Friend. - Posted by: Joe Maloney (Friend) on: Jul 15, 2013

I would like to express my condolences to Bob and his family. I found Bill to to be one of those really nice people. He would always greet you with a smile and very quickly offer his newly bought bag of peanuts to you. What struck me most was his interest in people and their well being. He also liked to tease and in my case remind me that I was a triple dipper. (collecting pensions and working). His weekly coffee news questions for Wendy, who rarely got them right, provided amusement for Bill and all of us gathered around his table at the PRINCESS. He was always positive and cheerful and a great guy to be around. At the pearly gates, I hope Bill, you were greeted with a draft and a toast to your arrival. Rest in Peace, Allan - Posted by: Allen Pfeil (friend at the Princess) on: Jul 09, 2013

I knew Bill through my brother Tony Lee. Both of them worked together at Canada Permanent Trust and when I emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1971 he was one of the first native Canucks that I encountered. We enjoyed many a pleasant evening at a local watering hole near the CPT building and Bill's great interest in hockey and in particular the skating prowess of the Montreal Canadiens became evident. One day(I assume I must have espoused some interest) he volunteered to take me to the Sargent Park arena and teach me the rudiments of skating- "push and glide, push and glide" was the mantra of the day but his patient coaching was largely lost on this ice-skating novitiate. So much so that after yet another tumble to the ice this hapless Scot was stranded centre stage, unable to regain his footing or composure as the Zamboni made its formidable appearance to ostensibly clean up the ice surface and possibly anything else that stood in its way! An embarrassing crawl off the rink ensued much to Bill's amusement and the mirth of the general public! Bill had a quirky but great sense of humour which I always enjoyed and laughter was never too far away in his company. I will miss him very much and am grateful to have shared some time with him, albeit far too little. Arthur Lee, Surrey B.C. - Posted by: Arthur Lee (Friend) on: Jul 08, 2013

Bill was my immediate superior at Canada Permanent Trust during the short period I worked there in the 1970's. He was such a nice person and made the job fun for me and all of those who worked with him. I am sure that he will be missed by a lot of people and extend my condolences to his family. - Posted by: Marlene Lambros (former colleague at Canada Permanent Trust) on: Jul 07, 2013

Bill lived next door to my parents and he was a great neighbour and friend growing up. I remember breaking a window or two of his as playing kids would accidentally do from time to time and he was never mad, always nice and understanding, as I got older and would sometimes run into Bill he was genuinely happy to see me and always greeted me with a huge smile. My thoughts are with his family and friends as he will be missed. - Posted by: Darren Ross (Neighbour) on: Jul 06, 2013

My deepest condolences to the Glover family. I will always think of Bill when I play crib. We had many laughs as he painfully taught me and gave me numerous chances before he took my uncounted points. Recently our paths reconnected at the Princess where we laughed about old times. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Brenda Altomare (friend) on: Jul 06, 2013
