RONALD (RON) GLASSFORD 1930-2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ron, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on July 16, 2013. Lovingly remembered by his caring and devoted wife of 58 years, Jean. Cherished in memory by his children Mark, Paul, Ian (Lorraine), Melinda, brothers Bob (Linda), Bill (Elaine), Peter, sisters Elsie (Gerry), Mary (Carl) and Lucy (Randy predeceased), seven grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and their children, as well as many treasured family and friends. Ron grew up in New Liskeard, Ontario, he completed a BA and BSc in Mining at Queens University; moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1967 to follow his career in mine safety. He retired in 1994 as the Director of the Mines Inspection Branch. He was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed poetry, travel, the dance club, curling and family events where his laughter, kind words, gentle smile, singing and playing of the fiddle will be dearly missed. Our sincere gratitude to the many health care teams at home, Deer Lodge, Heritage Lodge and Golden West for their warmth and caring. A special thanks to Dr. Harris and the health care teams at Concordia Hospital, for their excellence in cancer care. A memorial service and reception will be held on July 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home & Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

I am greatly saddened with the passing of my eldest brother Ron, but knowing that he is now resting in peace gives me some comfort. He was a fighter and I was very proud of him. I will especially miss his fiddle playing, but know he is up there, now playing again with our Dad. - Posted by: Lucy Robertson (Brother) on: Aug 02, 2013

Ron was a very dear friend of mine and a respected work colleague from the late 1960's onwards. We first crossed paths in my Inco days when Ron was a Mines Inspector. Ron was a true mining professional and Inco Thompson always respected Ron's opinions on the safety of our underground mining operations. I later had the pleasure of attending Ron's government retirement luncheon where many of his peers paid their professional respects and farewells to Ron. The world is a poorer place without you Ron.
