MARLENE LAFRENIERE 1942 - 2013 It is with deep sadness that the family of Marlene Lafreniere announce her passing on Friday, July 12, 2013, at the age of 70 years, after a lengthy illness. Marlene was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Allsupp as well as her brother, Gary. Marlene leaves to mourn her loving husband of 51 years, Roger who cared for her with utmost respect over the last 11 years. She will also be deeply missed by her daughter Marnie Smith (Kris), son Michael Lafreniere (Heather), brother Brian Allsupp (Elly), and five beautiful grandchildren, Abby, Heidi, Courtney, Ava and Luc. Marlene was born on September 10, 1942, the eldest child of John and Margaret in Regina, SK. The family moved to Winnipeg when she was a young child and Marlene attended Transcona Collegiate. Marlene and Roger met when she was 15 years old and married in 1962 having celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer. Marlene worked as an Administrative Assistant in various different organizations until they began a family. Marlene's children were the joy of her life and she was a proud and devoted mother. She was also very active in their schooling often volunteering regularly and participating in their abundance of sporting activities. She cherished the family vacations travelling in the van across Canada. She loved her children's friends and always accepted anyone into their home without judgement. She enjoyed life and spent many great times at cottages, social events, and family gatherings over the years. In her later years, she returned to the work force and worked as a vocational supervisor for WASO (Work and Social Opportunity). She absolutely loved this job working with mentally challenged clients and worked there until the age of 59 when she developed sudden onset of illness. Roger was able to care for her at home until January of 2013, which allowed her to be more comfortable. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Marlene's name on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street. The Family would like to thank the staff of Home Care (Family Managed Care Program) and Park Manor Personal Care Home for their Kindness and Compassion. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish to donate, please consider Park Manor Personal Care Home or WASO.
