James leaves to cherish his memory and miss his presence his "Babe", Mary Ann, four sons; Lee James Bear, Steven John Bear, Nickie James Harper and Dominic Lawrence Harper; daughter; Connie Harper; precious grand-children, Shakira Harper, Grace Harper, Jada Bear and Koda Bear; three brothers, Rod (Andrea), Alex and Les; four sisters, Alexandra (Bill) Jelinek, Jo-Anne (Jim) Meilleur, Yvonne (Kevin) Eggie and Emily (Tim) Wozney; and "adopted" sister, Cindy 'Bear'; two aunts, Ruby Moar and Emily Faries of Moose Factory, ON; and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James' Home-going was preceded by his loving parents, Alexander and Gertrude Bear; brother, Andrew Bear; and parents-in-law; Archie and Maggie Mason. Jim was born in Selkirk, MB. on October 6, 1954. He met the love of his life, Mary Ann in 1987 while working in Thompson, MB. Jim was a hard working man all his life. He worked as a journeyman welder when not working on the Pipeline where he met some of his closest friends. James enjoyed the outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting and sports. He, Rod and Mike bagged many a moose throughout the years. His love for outdoor sports is shared by his sons; hunting by Lee James and fishing by Steven. He was always making plans to go out or get together with his family and buddies. He would get on his phone and... Jim and Mary were off to the movies, eating out, visiting, some event, trade show or special celebration. James loved to travel when time permitted. He always had a project(s) around home. Of all the activities Jim especially loved being with his family. Many memories were made around bonfires and food and family dinners. Jim's priority was Mary and family. He took so much enjoyment interacting with the grand babies and watching them grow up. The things they would say and their antics gave him so much pleasure. Being the oldest grandchild and living close to Papa Bear, Shakira got to spend a lot of time with papa. Then the time came that she had to share her Papa Bear with Grace, Jada and Koda. James also loved going with his family to church. He shared his faith in Jesus Christ with others...in many ways...and asked the Lord for changes in his own life along the way so he could be all that the Lord had for him to be. He loved to read his Bible and pray. Throughout his life James became more and more the man that is so dearly loved by family and friends today. He chose to live a Godly life so he would be a better man, husband, father, papa, friend. • It's been over a month now and I'm still finding it hard to believe, playing hockey with him as a kid, fishing, camping, hunting, going to movies and golfing are not going to be the same especially pipeline, this morning I ran into a guy that worked with him on previous jobs as I have also and telling him about my father's passing on was a painful reminder of losing this man I love, I believe he's in a better place but it is so hard. I miss him everyday and is a big reason I'm a good father and role model for my kids as I also don't smoke, drink or do drugs something it doesn't mention which has made me a better man. - Posted by: Lee James Bear (Son) on: Aug 22, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of teaching Jim in grade one at Margaret Hayworth School. He & his brothers were very shy & stuck together. Having moved from Selkirk in the fall of 1961 I lost touch with the family but reconnected with Rod when he lived next door to my sister. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of his family at this sad time. - Posted by: Joan Moyer (Johnstone) (former teacher) on: Jul 25, 2013
