MARIO AIELLO On July 20, 2013, with his family by his side, Mario Aiello passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Mario will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his brother Joe Aiello, brothers-in-law Giuseppe Sacco, Antonio Audino, Mario Audino (Josie), his sister-in-law Rosina Gigliotti, cousin Alberto Aiello and his wife Carmela, and countless nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, godchildren and many friends too numerous to mention. Waiting to reunite with Mario on his eternal journey are his mother Angelina and father Vincenzo, his wife of 48 years Albina Audino, his parents-in-law Vincenzo and Felicia, his brother Francesco and his sisters-in-law Maria Aiello, Fiorenza Audino, Domenica Sacco and his brother-in-law Vitaliano Gigliotti. Mario was born in San Mango d'Aquino, Catanzaro, Italy, on May 3, 1934. In the early 50s, Mario immigrated to Winnipeg and was soon joined by his wife Albina. Mario was a devoted husband, caring brother and wonderful uncle and compare. Although Mario did not have any children of his own, he had numerous godchildren who were all very special to him. He worked for many years for Cara Operations at the Winnipeg Airport, first as a dishwasher and later as a breakfast cook; subsequently he joined the 7UP Company on Ellice Avenue and finally switched to Canadian Tool and Die on Chevrier Blvd. from where he retired in his 60s. Mario was an incredibly generous man with a huge heart and genuine spirit and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In his later years, Mario was very active in the Italian community at large by annually assuming the role of gatekeeper at the Sammanghese Madonna della Buda picnic and volunteering at Folklorama; he was a fixture at the Centro Caboto where he enjoyed playing bocce and cards and was quick to offer an espresso to his friends or an ice cream to the children. After the passing of his wife Albina in 2003, Mario moved to Villa Nova where he embraced a network of new friends that soon became part of his extended family. Mario touched many lives and was beloved by all those who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered with great fondness. The family wishes to thank the Sammanghese community, for their overwhelming demonstration of love and support, as well as his newly expanded family and friends at Villa Nova for making his last years so enjoyable for him. A heartfelt thank you goes to his special friend Isabel whose unconditional support and genuine friendship were of great comfort to Mario and very much appreciated by his family. Thank you also to the doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba and Manitoba Palliative Program for their professional and compassionate care. Viewing will be held in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Eulogy will be read at 10:30 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Renato Pasinato celebrant. Entombment in Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. Pallbearers will be: Mario Aiello, Tony Sacco, Vince Audino, Enzo Gigliotti, Frank Ferlaino, and Frank Trunzo. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or a charity of choice. • Mario was a wonderful man who always made sure that he embraced our family & friends when we visited. We are grateful that he was a part of our lives and a good friend to our mom, Isabel. Every morning, he would stop by to drop off coffee or just say hello and later there were many rounds of Skip Bo played. Over the years, there was also a friendly competition between my mom & Mario on who had the best garden & especially the tomatoes! We will miss your laughter & your friendship. • Since we came to Canada my family and I would always see Mario at numerous Italian community events and activities. It seemed that he was a presence in every phase of my life, from childhood to adolescence to my adult years. He always had a ready smile and kind word emanating from his lips. He was not one to complain. He lived life with determination, enthusiasm and a great sense of humour. I will miss Mario.
