Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE GAGNON (née POIRON) September 3,1925 - July 23, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Irène Gagnon, née Poiron at Action Marquerite (Foyer Valade) on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. She leaves to mourn her two sons Lionel (Yvette Fluet) of Hagersville, ON, Charles (Pauline Roy) of Rockwood, ON; five daughters: Rolande Sibilleau (Louis) of St Claude, Thérèse Gagnon of Winnipeg, Claudette Gagnon (Fred Lavigne) of Québec, Louise Zaffino of Winnipeg, Diane Thériault (André) of Niverville; 16 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. She is survived also by two brothers Denis Poiron (Jeanine), Ferdinand, and two sisters Aurélie Savard and Giberte Tourond (Adrien); two sisters-in-law Yvette Poiron and Madeleine Poiron. Mom was preceded by her loving husband, Mathias, who passed in 1994; her two brothers Raymond and Lucien, her sister-in-law Marie St-Vincent, and three brothers-in-law Louis Gagnon, Joe Lorteau and Paul St-Vincent. The eldest of seven children, Irène was born and raised in St. Labre MB. Mom would often reminisce about both the good and the difficult times of growing up on a farm and part of a small community. She met dad, Mathias, at a credit union in St. Boniface. They were married for 49 years. Mom and dad travelled, enjoyed camping/fishing in Poplar Bay. Mom always liked helping others. She fulfilled this need by caring for our father's aunt Julienne for many years. She and dad also fostered many children over the years. Their door was always opened to receive others in need. Throughout her working years, mom worked at the St. Boniface Hospital as well as at Great West Life. She also started a daycare in her home and looked after some of her grandchildren. Mom had many talents. She was a great cook, seamstress, enjoyed crafting, crocheting and looking after her flower/vegetable gardens. She had a great love of music. Mom had a full life, filled with many experiences and much joy. Mom was a devoted mother, her family was her pride and joy and her purpose in life. She always inquired on how everyone was managing. Her strong faith carried her through many obstacles in life. Mom, it is your time to rest and go join dad to enjoy the feast that has been prepared for you in heaven. You have touched many hearts and many lives and you will be greatly missed by all. We wish to thank all the nursing staff, dietary staff, and activity workers at Foyer Valade. Mom would often comment on the good care she received and on the good food. Thank you for your kindness, and compassionate care. A celebration of Irene's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Paroisse du Précieux- Sang, 200 Kenny Street. Interment to follow at Green Acres, No. 1 Highway East at Navin Road, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. I was deeply saddened to hear of your mother's passing. Over the years I often think of all of you when I reminisce about my childhood. Your mother was always generous and never hesitated to help any member of my family. Your house was always full and yet there was always room for one more. It was upsetting to find out I wouldn't be in Wpg until 4 days after the funeral... I would have very much enjoyed seeing all of you again. Take care. May all the wonderful memories of your Mom give you comfort. - Posted by: Audrey Campbell (One of the kids who grew up next door to the Gagnon family.) on: Jul 28, 2013
