JOHN CAMERON (CAM) BROWN
Date of Passing: Aug 02, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CAMERON (CAM) BROWN Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Cam passed away at Victoria Hospital on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Cam is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Maxine (nee Cumming), his son Brock (Michele) and cherished granddaughters Holly and McKenna, as well as his son Martin (Edie) and his treasured grandsons, Max and Cole. Cam is also survived by his sister Anne (John) Packer of Edmonton, brother Jim Brown, and numerous nieces, nephews and valued friends. Cam was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elsie Brown, and his brother Don Brown. Cam was born and raised on a farm in St. Boniface which provided the foundation for two of his greatest passions; the family he created with the love of his life, Maxine, and his accomplished career in the field of Agriculture. Cam obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) in 1952 and in 1955 a MSc in swine nutrition. Cam has been widely recognized by his peers for over 50 years of service as an Agrologist in Canada and internationally. He was bestowed with a collection of honours and awards throughout his career, and was especially honoured to be inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2010. Although many friends and colleagues have been touched by Cam's intelligent wit, warmth, and engaging personality, Cam will forever be remembered by his family for his fierce devotion as a husband and father. Cam built a strong, loving and supportive partnership with his wife Maxine that embraced his sons and their families and served to be an example of how to enjoy all the very best that friends and family bring to a beautifully full life. Whether curling, gardening, or sharing good times with friends and family, Cam collected us all with his smiles and cheer. A celebration of Cam's life will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cam's memory may be made to the Cam Brown Agricultural Scholarship for National and International Study at Red River Exhibition Foundation, 3977 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 2E8. Very sad to hear of Cam's passing. Our family fondly remember him, Jim and Hunter coming over to Scotland (once via Russia) to go and hunt down the family history and old farm steadings near Dufftown. We all got FeedRite hats that year! We also recall the great family get together that was held in Winnipeg in 2003. Our thoughts are with Maxine, Brock and Martin - Posted by: Iain Hannah (Cousin) on: Aug 14, 2013

We were so sad to hear of Cam's passing. Although we have had travel distance between us for many years, the miles have not stopped us from thinking of all of you. When we did meet, Cam always had a smile and suited Maxine to a tee. Our wishes to the family for peace and happiness in the hardest of times and the future. - Posted by: Ken, Judy, Callie & Kelsi Burnett ((Cousins)) on: Aug 13, 2013

Cam was one of my dad's dearest friends. As I recall there were always lots of laughs and "reflections on past times" when they got together. My sincerest condolences to you, Maxine, and your family, at this very sad time Most Sincerely Brenda Nestibo(Filteau) - Posted by: Brenda Nestibo (Filteau) (friend) on: Aug 11, 2013

Cam was a great friend, mentor, and colleague. Cam took me under his wing as an Aggie student, and continued to look out for me during my time at Feed-Rite and beyond. Always encouraged me to "get involved" and always maintained that we all had a responsibility to improve the agriculture livestock industry we enjoyed. It was a joyous day when Cam was recognized by the MB Ag Hall of Fame. - Posted by: Wayne Hiltz (friend, colleague) on: Aug 07, 2013

Jim and I will always remember the wonderful times and shared friendships with Cam, especially Agrifood-2000 and our great times with Jim and Elizabeth Elliot - Posted by: Louise and James Townsend (Long-time personal and Agriculture friends) on: Aug 06, 2013

Margaret and I send sincere condolences to Maxine, Anne, and the other family members. Though we lived in Edmonton since graduation and saw Cam infrequently I thought of him as a good buddy and enjoyed visiting when we met. Ag reunions will not be the same. My deepest sympathies to Maxine, Brock and Martin. Cam always had a smile, a chuckle and a word of encouragement for me through some very difficult times. Every time I think of him, it brings a smile to my face. - Posted by: John Brown - Naples, FL (cousin) on: Aug 06, 2013

Cam Brown was a true industry leader, who shared an honest approach to Ag-business. Having enjoyed 30 years as a respected competitor, Cam always went out of his way to recognize my efforts in the field. He will be sadly missed by my Cargill and Landmark co-horts. Respectfully submitted, Jane and Craig Mackie - Posted by: Craig Mackie (Industry colleague) on: Aug 06, 2013

Cam always had a smile and a positive comment whenever I met him. He called me to suggest I apply for the job he was leaving with Manitoba Pool as he moved on to greater things. I will remember Cam as a true friend. - Posted by: Doug Southam (Aggie friend) on: Aug 06, 2013
