As a very young man I worked for George at the DEWline site Cape Dyer and became thoroughly impressed by his knowledge and respectful management style. He not only directed the work on site but after hours would head up the evening's entertainment which always included a great section of music with some mandatory "Doug and the Slugs" tracks - which he particularly liked at the time. I recall how proud he was of his son and his absolutely joyful demeanour. George certainly enjoyed life and made a positive impact on all those who were fortunate enough to know him. - Posted by: Paul Phillips (Former coworker ) on: May 29, 2014

I am so sorry that this is late but I couldn't not send a quick note. May 06 1979, at the tender age of 19, I stepped off the aircraft at Cape Young (Pin 2) for the biggest shock of my life. George introduced himself as the station supervisor and must have seen the horrified look on my face as I looked around and saw nothing but barren wilderness and wanted so dearly to jump back on the airplane!! No one can prepare a person for isolation in the arctic. I stayed at the site for the next 2 years and I remember fondly that George was one of the nicest people that I'd ever met. He really introduced me to music, although I could never get into jazz and boy did he know his jazz! We had many a good weekends playing darts and pool. George was the best station chief I had during my 9 years on the Dewline and I'm very sorry that I'd lost contact with him when I departed. My condolences to all of George's family and friends. He was one of my best mentors and I know that he had a lasting effect on how I turned out in life. Good-bye George and I know that you are in Jazz heaven.
