JUDITH JOSEPHINE FILLETI (nee COTTICK) September 12, 1951 - August 4, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and loving friend. After a short, courageous battle with cancer, Judy passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital, with her family at her side. She was 61 years old. She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe Filleti; father Joseph Cottick; mother-in-law Pasqualina Filleti; father-in-law Carmine Filleti; brothers-in-law Antonio Filleti and Vincenzo Ianno; nephew Reid Cottick, and numerous other relatives. Judy will be sadly missed but never forgotten by her loving mother Helen Cottick of Dauphin, MB; dear friend Jim Sawa of Gimli, MB; loving children Sheila (Mario) Pereira, Tony Filleti (Samantha Recksiedler); grandchildren: Christopher, Alexandra and Nicholas Pereira; Alyssa and Anthony Filleti, and Payton Recksiedler; sisters: Florine (Emiel) Dahms of Sandy Hook, MB, Mary (Leo) Seniuk of Winnipeg, MB, Shirley (Kim) Gibson of Calgary, AB; brothers: Joe (Cindy) Cottick of Fork River, MB, Dean Cottick (Gwen Hryhoruk) of Dauphin, MB, Glen (Judy) Cottick of Winnipeg, MB; sister-in-law Carmela Ianno; sister-in-law Rosa (Frank) Militano; brother-in-law Rocco Filleti; sister-in-law Angela Filleti of Winnipeg, MB, and many numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Judy was born September 12, 1951 in Winnipegosis, MB. She was the first of seven children to arrive to parents Helen and Joseph Cottick. After graduating school in Winnipegosis, she moved to Winnipeg where she attended Success Commercial College and obtained her legal secretary certificate. Judy was employed as a legal secretary for a very short period, when she obtained a secretarial position with the federal government. During that time, she met and married the love of her life Giuseppe Filleti. During their 28 years together they raised two children, Sheila and Tony, in Winnipeg and enjoyed travelling and spending summers with family and friends at their cottage in Winnipeg Beach. While raising her family Judy continued to work. Judy obtained 34 years of service with the federal government of which the majority was with the Department of Public Works. Prior to retirement, Judy suffered the loss of her husband. She then sold their family home and moved to Winnipeg Beach where they had cherished many memories. Judy was blessed with six grandchildren of whom they all loved to spend time at Winnipeg Beach with their Nana. Once Judy retired, she was able to fully devote her time to the things she enjoyed most, which were family, hosting family functions, cooking, gardening and travelling with her dear friend Jim (Jimmy) Sawa. Judy was a strong, loving and selfless woman, who we will lovingly cherish the times we spent with her. You have left us, our hearts are broken but we will go on. We will remember the beautiful smile you gave us and the courageous way you fought the battle, not once being angry, just accepting the challenge. Your faith and love for your family kept you strong and you are in a pain free life now and may the loving arms of Jesus embrace you. The family would like to express special thanks to CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Gingerich, and all the staff on 6E Medicine at the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Reid Cottick Little Heroes Memorial Fund, reid.cottick.com. Prayers are 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 9 and Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10 at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Sheila and Tony, our deepest sympathies for the loss of your Mother Judy. She was a lovely human being. I remember her as a young girl at our family get togethers with her ever smiling face. On one occasion in particular (when you Sheila were very young), she comforted me when I was upset about a comment someone had made about the blouse I was wearing (being 15 years old and very emotional!), your Mother stepped in and defended me and my choice of wardrobe and commented on how pretty my choice was. I have always remembered this about her. She always had something nice to say, always. I am so sorry for her loss and for the grief you must be experiencing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Pina Militano and Family (Cousin) on: Aug 11, 2013
