MARUS THOMSEN September 30, 1934 - August 15, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, dad, Afi, uncle and friend Marus Thomsen. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Violet, sons Marlowe, Todd (Cynthia), daughter Margo (Brian), daughter-in-law Laurie, grandchildren Matthew, Brent, Mark, Malorie, Nathan, Drew, Brooke. He also leaves to mourn his sister Roselynn (Buck) Kleb, sister-in-law Barb Halyk, and numerous nieces and nephews who were proud to call him uncle. Marus was predeceased by his son Dwayne, and granddaughters Jessica Dawn and Jamie-Lynn. Marus was born and raised on Hecla Island. He worked at several different jobs before beginning work in 1971 on the construction of Hecla Provincial Park. As the supervisor for Hecla he was immersed in the development and construction of the Park. Marus retired from this position in 1991 but remained active as a volunteer with the department of natural resources, providing commercial fishing demonstrations on Lake Winnipeg in both summer and winter. Summer crowds frequently exceeded 300 spectators. Marus's retirement was short lived as he then took up his true passion of commercial fishing. He fished spring, fall, and winter seasons. He could not wait for each season to begin and was always the last one off the lake at the end of the season. Marus fished with two of his sons and in recent years he had been fishing with his grandson Matthew. He was very proud of this as they spent many days together. He will be lovingly remembered for his BIG LAUGH, his generous nature, and his teasing/ joking ways. We will Love and Miss you always. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church. Everyone is invited for coffee at the Riverton Community Hall immediately following the service. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grand-children. Flowers are gratefully declined those wishing too may donate to the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Marus will be remembered by all staff that he worked with and as a man who expected you to work just as hard as he did in his life, wether he was working for the government or fishing. If you weren't working hard, you sure heard it from Marus! He will be remembered fondly for his very warm nature, his big hearted laugh, when he was kidding or teasing with you. He was a friend to all DNR staff and will be missed. Two thumbs up buddy! Warren - Posted by: Warren Toderan (friend) on: Aug 17, 2013
