ALAN HOOPER December 14, 1954 - August 14, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alan (Ves) Hooper on August 14, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 58. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 36 years, Kathryn Hooper, his son Brian Hooper and his wife Sheri Hanson, his daughter Tabitha Hooper, and four beautiful grandchildren, Daiton, Austun, Draven and Veronica, as well as brother Bill Hooper (Heather), sister Dorothy Hooper (Bob McNamara), Dale Hooper (Pam) and sister Vivian Hooper (Carroll Pelletier) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews & other family members. Alan was predeceased by his parents Olive and Stan Hooper, and in-laws Edwina and James Kolotylo. Throughout his life he was a part of the Navy League Sea Cadets Corp JTCVC. He moved up to reserves. Then he went to work for Transport Canada as a radio operator. He was loaned out to the Norma Gladys Schooner while he worked there. This loan turned out to be one of the many highlights of his life. He got to see many parts of the world while there. He worked for Transport Canada (Nav Can) until his medical retirement. While he was working he lived in various places throughout Northern Manitoba. Wherever he lived he cultivated long lasting friendships with many people who are now his extended family. On retirement he got to know the joys of being a grandpa. He will be sadly missed for his entertaining ability to keep a room in stitches with his jokes and stories. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day St. "Ves it is time to go ashore. Lift one for us! It was a good run. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Sorry about your brother. I remember your mom and my mom and dad used to hang out with each other. - Posted by: Joyce Lancaster (Neighbour) on: Jan 25, 2019

  • I remember Ves sitting in our living room in Churchill delivering one liners mixed with entertaining stories. No one left without a smile and good mood after an evening with him. I will always miss those moments, but will help to keep him alive by never forgetting his contribution to society as a positive influence. When I retired last year I voiced (at a high volume as Ves would do)the words "Shore Leave" Heaven has now become a better place. - Posted by: Gary Brown () on: Aug 24, 2013

  • “Every person passing through this life will unknowingly leave something and take something away. Most of this “something” cannot be seen or heard or numbered or scientifically detected or counted. It’s what we leave in the minds of other people and what they leave in ours. Memory. The census doesn’t count it. Nothing counts without it.” ― Robert Fulghum His sense of humour was legend and his laughter infectious. I continue to use some of his best lines to this day. And yes, they still make me laugh, I suspect they always will. - Posted by: Lloyd (Accomplice in humour) on: Aug 23, 2013
