HELEN KARASIUK (nee PERNAK) Peacefully, on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Helen Karasiuk, aged 75 years, of Selkirk, passed away after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Roy; sister Mary; two children, Gary (Marion) and Alan; and two grandchildren Alexis and Zachary. Helen was born in Selkirk on February 27, 1938. She loved children and spent her career teaching Kindergarten and Grade One. She was retired for 20 years, enjoying her house on River Road in the summer and a home near Phoenix in the winter. Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Mb, R3E 0V9.   • Helen was a very special person and dear friend to me. We met 56 years ago when we were just kids teaching together at Daerwood School in Selkirk MB.   • Helen, it was so good to get to see you and your family on July 30 of this year. I feel honored to have met you and am saddened that I didn't get to know you better.
