Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWANDA MATTEIS Wanda Matteis, 88 of Winnipeg, MB, peacefully passed away at 9:35 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Tuxedo Villa Extendicare Home. She was born October 20, 1924 in Malito, Italy to Pietro and Teresina Rigitano. Married and predeceased by her husband John Matteis. They wed in Malito Italy, April 30, 1950. Wanda is survived by her two children Jennie and Peter Matteis (Suzie), grandchildren John Bellino (Jennifer), Joey Bellino (Jenifer), Maria Brandstrom (Anders), Jonathon and Shayla, great-grandchildren; Michael, Luke, Jakob, Ryan, Grace and Jillian. She also leaves behind her sister Giaconda Notarianni and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving relatives. Wanda and her daughter Jennie arrived in Canada and joined her husband in April of 1954. Wanda worked in various work environments before settling in a spending a long tenure at Eaton's downtown. Wanda was a hard working woman, however, she never lost sight of the importance of spending time with family. Wanda enjoyed hosting holiday meals with family and opened her home to friends alike. She was extremely proud of her families accomplishments. She never shied from boasting of their successes. She enjoyed gardening and baking and spending time having family picnics at St. Malo and Birds Hill Park. Wanda was very sociable and always had a story to share with family and friends. Wanda was blessed to be witness to special milestones in her families life. She recognized the importance of faith and attended Sunday mass at Holy Rosary Church and was an active member of the Italian community and passed her time engaging in activities and programs at the Centro Caboto Centre. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Tuxedo Villa Extendicare station 1 and a very special thank you to Norbert, Anita, Irene, Beryl, Jennifer and Evelyn for the compassionate care they provided. In Lieu of Flowers a donation can be made in her honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation. Viewing will be held in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Eulogy will be read at 10:45 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Renato Pasinato celebrant. Our street has never been the same since your Mom moved. She filled our street with laughter and love and great garden vegetables and the best Pesce (pastry). We are so sorry for your family's loss.
