LILLIAN BJORNSON (TOWNSEND) Mother, at 91 years, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013. She was preceded by her husband Svienbjorn (Swampy), her parents George and Elizabeth Townsend, sister Agnes and brother George. She is survived by brother Reg (Gwen), son David (Jennie), daughters Shelagh (Lloyd) Gilbbery, and Lois (Tom) Stewart, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mother as one of the last graduates from the Selkirk General Hospital's nursing program, was a career nurse both in Winnipeg and Selkirk. When needed, she continued to help others after her retirement. She recently received recognition for 50 years of service with PEO, Chapter G of Manitoba. Always proud of her Old England heritage, she adored her Vaughan Avenue community. Mom and Dad were among the first settlers at Bird Lake. Her hospitality at home and the lake will be remembered by many local, national and international guests. She has described her athletic prowess as "sweeper, hacker and skinny dipper". Her world travel experiences have become family folklore, with London being her city of choice. Mother always showed interest in her community, her friends and special interest in each of her grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a family function is planned in the fall.
