FRANCES MARY DEPRES (nee JOBIN) On Monday, August 26, 2013, Frances peacefully passed away with her family at her side. Fran was predeceased by her husband, George, parents Frank Jobin and Bernice Jobin (nee Donovan), sisters Claire Jobin and Llewyn (Skip) Joyce, and brother Francis (Bud) Jobin. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gina (Nelson), George (Tracey), Rob, Lisa (Jay), Cara (Carmen), grandchildren Renee (Jonathan), Jean-Paul (Lindsay), Marc (Kari), Cory, Erica, Bobby, Zachary, Danielle, Colton, Ruark, Chloe, Elizabeth, Steven, great-granddaughters Kwan and Tula, great-grandson Parker, her sister Donna (Puff) Craig along with many nieces and nephews. Born March 7, 1931, Fran grew up as part of a large close-knit family in Winnipeg. She enjoyed many summers at Winnipeg Beach where she would eventually meet the love of her life, having tripped him on the pier. Schooling played a considerable role in her upbringing, having spent the majority of her school life attending St. Mary's Academy and becoming Valedictorian in her graduating year. She was especially proud to have been the recipient of a theatre scholarship in New York following high school. Upon her return, she worked in a bank and continued her acting career in theatre and television before moving on to raise her family. Fran married George in 1952 at St. Ignatius Church and they were together for 56 years. A strong woman with a firm level of determination, she raised five children (almost three different generations) to whom she always showed an equal level of love, support and care. The phrase firm but fair clearly described her approach with her children. Always a creative person, she rounded out her theatric capabilities as a painter, seamstress, singer, baker and cook. She was also gifted with the ability to create and restore many beautiful pieces of furniture to be found on display throughout the family home or cottage. A voracious reader, Fran's thirst for knowledge never subsided throughout her life. When it came to games, she had the intellect that you always wanted on your team and when you were fortunate to do so, you knew you automatically were in a better position to win each and every time. Mom maintained a strong faith in God and passed along many important lessons to her children. We were always encouraged to keep an open mind and to never shy away from responsibility. She set the standards for the entire family to follow, something we have all endeavored to pass on to our own children. Fran and George spent many happy years both pre and post retirement at their home in Sandy Hook. She was the consummate hostess to all and for every occasion. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter became mandatory cottage occasions for the entire family to attend. Fran was a tireless supporter of her husband and contributed in a quiet, but substantial manner, to his accomplishments throughout their lives together. They were a team and never was this more evident than during dad's later life where she administered selfless care and patience in support of his health challenges. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Home. She spoke often and kindly about the care and support you provided. We would also like to thank the staff of Riverview Hospital, 3 East for their tireless and gentle care during her stay with you. In keeping with Frances' wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J.COUTU & CO. • To the entire Depres Family, I would like to express our deepest condolences on Fran's passing. I will always remember Fran and George as parents that seemed to enjoy life...balancing fun with responsibility in a way it seemed few parents did in those days. • To the Depres Family Our sincerest thoughts go with all of you today. It is 40 years ago that we met your mother for the first time. Your mother and father made us feel welcome to Winnipeg relocating from Toronto in 1973. Over the many past years we all went our separate ways but remained in contact through Nelson and Gina. May God look over all of you in the coming years. - Posted by: Lois and Peter Gall (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2013

  • I have a wealth of fine memories of being at the Depres household as a teenager. Both Mr. and Mrs. Depres always treated me as if I were one of the family and that was greatly appreciated. To George and Tracey, Nelson and Gina, and to all the Depres children, please accept my humble condolences. Your mom (and dad) were wonderful people. - Posted by: Bob Patterson (Family Friend) on: Aug 30, 2013
