Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN ELAINE CHAIKOWSKY Accidentally on August 24, 2013 our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Doreen Elaine Chaikowsky (nee Ritchot) was tragically taken from us at the age of 71. Born October 19, 1941 in St. Boniface, Manitoba she leaves to mourn her sisters Linda Ritchot (Doug), Louise Filecsia (Fil), Karen Shuvera (Dave), Sharon Danyluk (Ken), Pat Kusnezov (Mike) and Carol Ritchot (Ken), and her brothers Paul (Junior) Ritchot (Dixie) and Len Ritchot (Shelley). She has two sons Wade (Debbie) and Jonas Chaikowsky and four granddaughters, Meladie, Megan, Jadene and Avery. Also left to mourn are 19 nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews as well as close friends Linda Rushnik, Lucy and Richard Homann. Married to James Chaikowsky for 40 years, she took care of him until his death in December of 2012. Doreen was a hockey mom who spent her time supporting the team with numerous fundraisers and later in life at the St. Joseph's Holy Family Care Home on Main and Redwood. She spent her time playing Bingo, crocheting, doing puzzles, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was avid an Bomber fan who once held season tickets and cheered on the Winnipeg Jets as well as Kid Rock and Carly Rae Jepson. In the winter she took the granddaughters to the Festival of Lights where they ate mini donuts and hot chocolate. In the summer it was the Red River Ex ending each year with a ride on the ferris wheel. An exceptional cook her meatballs, stuffed peppers and especially the cabbage rolls will be greatly missed. She had a heart of gold and was there for family and friends no matter what the need, often taking time to go above and beyond. A memorial service will be held in mid October, 2013, an announcement will follow in the Free Press Saturday, October 5, 2013. We walked beside her footsteps, so tall she'd never fall. When Heaven called out to her, we knew we lost it all. An angel so pure, a heart so strong, we'll never forget you now that you're gone. The brightest star now in the sky, watching us forever as days go by. The warmth a hug, the rain a kiss, A wonderful woman the world will miss. Never to be forgotten. 204-782-3541

She was a babysitter of mine. I remember she was babysitting myself and my sisters when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. She helped me take a photograph of the TV....I think I still have the pic. I seem to recall her hair always being perfectly coifed. I met up with her years later when her boys were young and had coffee at her house...can't remember how this happened...could have been hockey related..my son was also in hockey. We had coffee a few times....talked about when we were neighbors and I used to chum with one of her younger sisters...I'm getting older and can't remember which one. My condolences to her sons and family. - Posted by: Gayle Allen ( Hinds ) () on: Sep 10, 2013

My first memories of Doreen was when she was a teenager, sitting by her bedroom window, smoking and playing her records so loud the neighbours had no choice but to listen. After 54 years I still love her music -- country and western. She was taken too soon, but our memories of her will always live on. Sharon - Posted by: Sharon Baril (Family friend) on: Aug 31, 2013
