PETER KOVACS Peacefully and with his family at his side, Peter Kovacs, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died September 7, 2013 at the age of 87. Peter is survived by his children Diana (Ron) Stephenson, Gregory (Shelagh) Kovacs and Lee (Suzanne) Kovacs; grandchildren Heather (Luka Jambrosic) and Jill Kovacs, Christian (Julie) Stephenson and Ben and Sasha Kovacs; great-grandchildren Elijah Jambrosic and Ethan Stephenson. He is also survived by his brother Paul of Woodridge, MB and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Pearl, his wife of 67 years. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Peter was born on May 20, 1926 in the District of Piney, MB. He grew up in the Sanford area where he farmed for several years before moving to Winnipeg in 1952. Peter worked for Union Carbide-Plastics Division in Fort Garry for many years. He and Pearl later moved to Selkirk, MB where he again worked for Union Carbide in the Linde Air Division until his retirement in 1988. They returned to Winnipeg to be closer to their family and friends. Peter loved music and entertaining. He was a talented accordion player, playing in local bands all of his life. Even when travelling to Arizona for the winter, he would be involved in seniors' bands. Dad also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating. His favourite fishing holes were on the Winnipeg River near Kenora and walleye was his favourite catch. He picked blueberries every year until this past summer. He was an avid card player, playing bridge, whist and cribbage in several clubs. He enjoyed canasta with friends who could not be convinced that bridge was the greatest game. He was a sports enthusiast playing baseball in his youth and enjoyed many sports as a spectator. According to Peter's wishes, a private burial will take place. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or to the charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Pete was a friend and colleague and enjoyable to work with. He was a 'people' person, concerned about doing his job well as well as those he worked with. I have good memories of us working together as well as solving some of the worlds bigger problems!! My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Fred Demoskoff (Friend & colleague at Union Carbide / Linde) on: Dec 07, 2013

  • Pete was a nice man and a good father. He used to make me giggle when he mentioned that he played accordian in the band called Pete and the Repeats. I will remember him fondly and would like to pass on my condolenCes to the family. Take Care - Posted by: Kim Pododworny (Friend of Family) on: Sep 20, 2013

  • I remember "Big" Pete when I was a young boy playing his Audiovox accordion with my father in the bands they played in back in the 60's before we moved away to Calgary. They would also come over and have jam sessions to practice and it was always a memorable time. I saw him a few years ago when I took my mother to their place for a visit and they had a good time visiting. He will be missed by all who enjoyed his good nature and music playing. My mother also passes on her condolences to the family. - Posted by: Rick Feakes (Son of Irving & Elsie Feakes) on: Sep 15, 2013
