Born: Nov 03, 1914
Date of Passing: Sep 09, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDA KRISTIN FREEMAN (nee GUDMUNDSON) November 3, 1914 September 9, 2013 The family of Freda Freeman, (nee Gudmundson), wish to announce her peaceful passing in her sleep on September 9, 2013 at the Lundar Personal Care Home at the age of 98 years. She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Jim (Lucille) Freeman; daughters Judy Freeman and Pat Simon (Barrie Cairns); grandchildren Daryl Stanley (Cecillia), Jackie Jonasson (Arnthor), Cynthia Maxwell (Ted), Stephanie Bien (Bill), Tyler Holloway, Dwayne Simon (Jen), Morley Freeman; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson with one great-great- grandson soon to arrive. Freda was predeceased by her husband Grettir Freeman, daughter Audrey Stanley, granddaughter Bridget Simon, brothers Charlie, Barney, John and Laufey, sisters Soffia, Sigrun, Anna, Svava, Margaret, Helga, Freda and Kristrun. Freda was born on November 3, 1914 in Hayland, MB where she was raised and attended the Hayland School. She was married on December 2, 1939 and moved to the Freeman Farm at Siglunes where she and Grettir raised their family. After retirement, they built a smaller house and stayed on the farm. Five years later, they moved their house to Ashern, MB. Shortly after Grettir passed away, she moved to Glencora Estates where she stayed until she had difficulties with her eyesight and hearing. She moved to the Lundar Personal Care Home and spent many good years there. Many talents did Mom possess. Teaching us to dance in the big farm kitchen with the high stool placed in the middle of the floor while singing a tune was always a lot of fun. Mom loved to dance the Schottische. Amma enjoyed life completely. She loved Hockey Night in Canada as a Toronto fan. Peter Mandsbridge of CBC was another favourite. Her family was very important; first with her children and then with the grandchildren. Amma went beyond the call of duty in her babysitting of grandchildren. She treated every person with respect and could always find good in everyone. If she did not agree with you, she would just give a small smile and say "that is the way they do things". Amma enjoyed gardening, playing cards, dancing and singing. She was able to play the organ by ear and provided music in earlier years. Amma believed there was nothing more important than health and, to prove her point, she lived two months short of becoming 99 years young. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Siglunes Community Hall (Hayland Hall) with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Vogar Cemetery. Our family wishes to extend thanks to all staff of the Lundar Personal Care Home for the exceptional care they provided to our Amma. Also thanks to John Gray and staff of Arnason Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amma's memory to Lundar Personal Care Home Guild PO Box 60, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0 Attention: Judy Gleich Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072 1-866-323-3593

Freda was such a lovely giving person. One of the highlights of Halloween trick or treating was to go to Grettir and Freda's as they always enjoyed seeing us kids dressed up and since on the farm they didn't get many trick or treaters, they loaded us up with treats. A long life, well lived with dignity and grace and with love shown to everyone, especially her family. Góða nótt, I am happy that you will be with your sweetheart Grettir again, I am sure he has been missing you a lot. Love Debbie - Posted by: Debbie Pieterse (nee Johnson) (friend) on: Sep 11, 2013

I will always remember you Freda. Ever since I was just a child and even when I went through my turmoil years, you were always so kind to me. Your gentle smile, your soft voice, everything about you instantly filled the room with an angelic presence. You touched the hearts of so many people. May you rest peacefully my beautiful pioneering friend. God is most certainly with you Freda. Say hi to all of my family in the Icelandic section of heaven. I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember you. Condolences to your most beautiful family. - Posted by: Linden (Lindy) Johnson (friend) on: Sep 11, 2013
